    Special Offers Discussion

For the Northern Ticket Offer is it OK to buy multiple copies of the newspaper from the same day? I can't see anything in the terms and conditions to say you can't do this.

    Tenby Visit

The Pembroke Dock Hertiage Centre is worth visiting. Its closed until March 30th. It has stuff on Short Sunderland flying boats, an HMS Erebus exhibition (from June 8th) and the Millennium Falcon. My wife liked it and didn't have any specific interest beforehand.

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

https://issuu.com/retromash/docs/argos-no01-1973-74 has the 1973-74 Argos catalogue. Page 84 has a Swan kettle for £3.95 or a Russell Hobbs one for £6.10. With the Bank of England RPI inflation calculator, in today's money those are £43.50 and £67.17. The only colour TV is an 18" Pye one for...

Bruges by train in the year 2000

In September 2000, I booked a ticket on the catamaran from Dover to Ostend. It was cancelled because of high winds near Ostend. I was rebooked on a Dover-Calais ferry with a coach on to Ostend. The hovercraft were still running from Dover. The ferry and coach was a bit slower, but not by much...

    Supermarkets discussion

M&S have some competitive prices, but only on specific items. For example, you can get 6 free range eggs for £1.50, but the alternatives are over £3. They have some nice cheddar cheese which is quite reasonably priced, for the quality. There are many things that they sell which are less...

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I'm 58 and I remember rulers with cm and inches which got replaced with metric-only ones when I was 6. I suspect I learnt the imperial units from the page in a diary, when I've been bored at school. I know 9 of the 39 Imperial units in this diagram.
