    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

One thing I noticed last week when I was booking a Travelodge in Cardiff city centre for a Sunday in March, that the percentage difference between the fixed & flexible rates can vary, for the 3 branches within the city centre area (the one outside Central, the one near Cardiff Bay & the one...

Folkestone To Seaford via Eastbourne Ticket ? No Break of journey allowed on return??

Agreed there, if I was going to walk from Seaford to Eastbourne (or vice versa) it would be a case of checking the weather, that area you don't want to end up getting caught in heavy downpours or if the wind is arctic. At least these days anybody walking can catch the route 12 series bus back...

Folkestone To Seaford via Eastbourne Ticket ? No Break of journey allowed on return??

I guess it might flag up on a ticket from Folkestone due to the existence of the 'not via London' or the expensive 'any permitted' ticket which I presume could have the OP avoid Eastbourne.

ScotRail to introduce £10 minimum fare for those not buying before boarding

Or even if someone has decided to rub spit (or another bodily waste product) over the touchscreen for a laugh. To the various systems the TVM is reporting that it's working until someone reports the screen is unusable. ----- If ScotRail moved into the modern era with PDF e-tickets rather than...

ScotRail to introduce £10 minimum fare for those not buying before boarding

I guess comes into play if someone attempts to "short fare" on a bus. Boards in Aberdeen city centre, asking for a ticket for somewhere within the city suburbs but stays on outside the city area where the fare would be more? Considering it's only £3 for a single, in some areas a plusbus...

Are SWR's on board announcements excessive?

"This is British Transport Police" in the same voice as all the other auto announcements.

ScotRail to introduce £10 minimum fare for those not buying before boarding

Sounds like it's something where the minimum fare tickets will be sold by revenue protection but most guards/ticket examiners will ignore and sell a regular priced ticket (including Railcards if applicable)

Will the "T Network", TfW's new multi-modal public transport network for Wales, be compatible with GBR branding?

Stagecoach is the only main operator which displays prices Try looking for the cost of a single on the Adventure Travel run route 64 service between Ystradgynlais & Cwmllynfell etc

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

I did notice they are heavily advertising the £20 upgrade to the slightly nicer seats in 1st class at stations along the route.

Will the "T Network", TfW's new multi-modal public transport network for Wales, be compatible with GBR branding?

If it means the prices for buses are displayed the better, no more nasty surprises when someone rocks up to a bus stop and asks for a single to X to be told it will be £9. Etc

Dealing with antisocial behaviour on the railway - how can the issue be resolved?

A possible solution is for the industry to employ more security staff called something like 'bylaw enforcement officers' who have a zero tolerance for any anti social behaviour. Both visible and undercover. Get caught with your feet on the seat opposite, on the spot £100 fine, get caught vaping...

Has the Palace of Westminster had its day?

For that you will need somewhere like Burton on Trent, somewhere where the MPs & civil servants will be forced to use XC ;) All a location at Derby or Sheffield will mean EMR getting wired in full, or additional trains between Sheffield & Doncaster

    Train Station Trivia

Southampton Airport also gets 159s calling, not diagrammed but can pop up whenever Southampton FC are at home The issue with Southern is the use of 387s with only some of the London area stations being solely 377. I would have suggested C2C but they have the handful of 720s.

Dealing with antisocial behaviour on the railway - how can the issue be resolved?

The sort who either ignore you ("what are you going to do about it?") or will remove their feet as requested only for their feet to magically reappear on the seat within a minute after the guard disappears.
