Dunoon or Rothesay .. which one should we visit

One of my favourite day trips (from NW England mind!) is to Rothesay. Admittedly my main objective when I do it is the variety of travel and booze, booze and more booze. Just the amount of fun you can have. Glasgow across to Wemyss Bay is a pretty scenic journey, Wemyss Bay Station is...

Misuse student card but have to going back home country soon

Are you ever planning to return to the UK? Even just for a holiday or a work trip? I'll let others comment on the best strategy either way. Because obviously the last thing you want is to get arrested or refused entry on arrival after a court conviction and unpaid fine you didn't know about.

    Caledonian Sleeper Delay Repay

In my experience of CS delays en route whilst in the seated coach, they do indeed text you with updates. I've even had a direct phone call whilst waiting at Crewe for a cancelled service once.

“Extreme day trippers” on the rise

I've had everything from "Bonjour, Merci beaucoup" at Paris Orly, to "what's the purpose of your trip, where are you going and can I see your ticket home?" At Hoek Van Holland, and Polish immigration wanting to see my hotel booking for that night at Katowice. Varies wildly, seemingly...

Positive service/staffing/revenue changes recent few months Manchester-Leeds (TPE)

The dispatchers most definitely were agency staff at Leeds.

    Thameslink fare evasion self-report (England

Do GTR have a preferred charity that they support? I know WMT offer the option to donate delay repay to Birmingham Children's Hospital, or at least did the last time I claimed from them. That could be a viable option? I would expect GTR to do some digging if they received a 4 figure payment...

    Lost/stolen Oyster cards

I'm sure I overheard a member of staff telling someone to order a Travelcard on an Oyster and that way they wouldn't have to pay the £10.50 charge a week or so ago. Obviously I don't know the context as I was merely waiting to use the TVM, but is that the case?

    Lost/stolen Oyster cards

And IIRC that £5 became credit after a certain period?

Northern Explorer for 2 persons; valid for one to travel alone?

Indeed! Though as the OP rightly says, that doesn't really excuse the initial hostility. I, like I suspect most others, instantly switch off when I hear "I've been doing this job for X years" to justify why they must be right, in any industry. I've had a few members of staff over the years...

    Lost/stolen Oyster cards

I had one stolen once. Logged into my Oyster account, it hadn't been used and had a negative balance on it as a maximum fare had been incurred. Reported it as stolen and that was the end of it. FWIW, I was not asked to pay the negative balance. It had a railcard discount or I would be unlikely...

“Extreme day trippers” on the rise

I did Belfast a couple of years back, booked in a Black Friday sale. 06:30 from Manchester and about 20:45 back from Belfast. Great day out. Paid £12ish on Ryanair heading out and £3.90 on EasyJet heading home.

    LNER advert for Londoners

I've been asked if I'd mind them making/taking a call a couple of times. ASK me, and I'm fine with it. Every time. But just taking, or worse, making the call to anyone but the taxi office or the emergency services with a paying customer onboard? Nope. You wouldn't expect to go for a pint and...

    LNER advert for Londoners

That's a really good point actually. Where I am (up North), the local taxi firm must require drivers to be plated by the local council as they all are. So the result is you get drivers who are all local, or at least the vast majority are, know their regulars and the roads pretty well. They will...

    FIP Spain - London

Last time I used Eurostar from London (early June IIRC), there were signs up at the travel centre advising all services to Paris were fully booked that day. So it's not just Interrail availability that runs out!

    Caledonian Sleeper

Probably a taxi in all likelihood. The vast majority will be going down south, so I'd expect a coach to go direct to Edinburgh with taxis sorted for the few going elsewhere. That said, I've been in a fleet of taxis from Edinburgh to Fort William before. IIRC out of the 25ish of us on the FTW...

Passports Required from 28 September for Ferry Travel Republic of Ireland to Great Britain

I've used my driving licence on the ferry to Guernsey. Was checked both ways but was perfectly fine. I flew Manchester-Southend with FlyMaybe in 2017, took my passport but most people were using driving licences. I've flown to Belfast a couple of times, both with Ryanair so had to take my...

What to do in Cherbourg for a couple of hours?

There is a bus from the port into town. Or there certainly was last year anyway.

    Transpenine Express new onboard announcements

Which TPE service has a coach K? I'd assume a 10 car 397 but I'm pretty sure there has never been a 10 car 397 in passenger service. Despite the internal signage being set up to facilitate it!
