Is a Macclesfield to Kendal ticket valid via Kidsgrove, Crewe & WCML?
A friend tried it and got an earful. I can understand EMT and LM not being keen between Kidsgrove and Crewe since I suspect they get nowt from such tickets! :D
Arrived c.1412 from the North ! apparently empty. From Longsight? Anybody know what was going on?
Trains from Euston seemed to be running 20-30 late; had the 1243 Euston - Glasgow been turned round in the West Midlands or something?
Very odd.
(Curious day - there was a Voyager in...
Was on the 1735 Chester - Euston today. Around 1733 came an announcement to the effect we would be 5 minutes late leaving awaiting a "late running Arriva Trains Wales service".
Holyhead - Birmingham came in on 3b (we were in 1) - half a dozen passengers quickly crossed the platform, off we...
Visited the (expensively) refurbished Llandudno station this week.
What a let-down!
All they've done is enclose the entrance area with glass walls, provide a new car park and ... er ... that seems to be it!
And the enclosed part is only open when the station's staffed - 6 or 7 hours per...
Caught the 1730 Holyhead - Shrewsbury today and was surprised to discover it runs non-stop from Llandudno Junction to Chester! Followed by an 1839 from the Junction to Chester which makes the usual calls.
Two questions:
1. Why non-stop over this section?
2. What forms the 1839? Can't...
I've never claimed Delay Repay in the past for 3 good reasons:
1. Rarely delayed
2. Longer journeys are usually on Free Passes (!)
3. Shorter journeys are on PT & it seems churlish.
However, having suffered 2 recent delays - Virgin following trackside fire at Crewe and LM following ...
Once upon a time Crewe had a Travel Centre (TC) and a Booking Office (BO).
The Travel Centre was for general enquiries, bookings in advance, reservations for a week next Thursday etc etc
The Booking Office was for buying tickets, usually for immediate travel.
Following the remodelling...
I've found a weird fare on the National Rail website and just wondering if it's valid?
Won't name the places involved (don't want them shutting a loophole!) but will use different placenames to establish the principle.
Let's say I want to travel from Bath to Chippenham. Cheapest fare is...
On another thread somebody has claimed that as PM Thatcher introduced a rule that municipalities were not allowed to operate buses over 10years old, but that this rule did not apply to privately-owned companies.
This seems bizarre!
Can anyone confirm whether this was or wasn't the case?
A local Crewe charity needs to send 2 people on a training course in Totnes. Out Monday morning, back Wednesday evening.
NRE fare quoted is £109.70?
Any suggestions for inventive ways of cutting costs?
Right. I was in Crewe and needed to go to a meeting in Cheadle Hulme.
Day Return to Cheadle Hulme. Simple.
Well, journey planner gave a fastest journey via Stockport (at that particular time), so presumably my Cheadle Hulme ticket would be valid via Stockport. Correct?
But since I might...
Over recent weeks I've noticed an Arriva-liveried partial open-topper parked in Shrewsbury (Coton Hill area). Anybody know what it is, or whose premises?
(There's a couple of coaches and a single-decker bus on the same site)
This may prove controversial, but ......
I'd be interested in comments on the relative quality of the different single deckers currently on the market. I realise there's a basic distinction between the heavyweights and the lightweights, but how do they compare in terms of comfort...
I sometimes see a rake of cargowagons being loaded/unloaded in the sidings between Widnes and Ditton, but can never quite see what the traffic is!
Can anybody tell me what's being shifted to/from where?
They look like coils. Steel? Paper? Inbound/ outbound?

Some friends had advance tickets this afternoon 1649 Crewe - Chester and 1724 Chester - Bangor.
In view of WCML disruption I was concerned that the 1649 would be late (or even caped) and suggested going for the 1623 {In the event the 1649 was fine}
My question is:
If we had got to the...
Noted today that 150282, at one end at least, has acquired a "shedplate" for
6G (Llandudno Junction). I am, of course, delighted to be honoured in this way, but it seems a bit harsh on 86A who still do the heavy work on it!
:D
