Could TfW expand the Class 197 fleet?

Maybe someone should ask CAF or stadler if tbey can build a rake of mk5A/M6 carriages with DVTs/DBSO and have 12 or 13 rakes of 6 5/6 carriages with bi mode locos say class 99s. Order enough rakes to run an hourly Swansea to Manchester Piccadilly service with 1 train every 2 hours running...

Network Rail proposed Tarka line upgrades

Personally if Barnstaple goes to 2tph id have both run to Exmouth. Id look at running the Cardiff to Taunton service to Exeter abd through to Paignton. The other 1tph from Paignton could run to Taunton or through to Okehampton

Should the third rail ban be lifted?

Im sure ive seen in a previous issue of modern railways magazine that network rail did come up with a way to improve the safety of 3rd rail to try and make it easier to get permission from the authorities to expand the network etc. Will have to try and dig it out but if so I do think we should...

Should the third rail ban be lifted?

I agree especially as SWR are sending stock off lease so 3rd rail could mean swr could make use of the existing fleet rather than purchasing brand new BEMUs

What could be done to increase rail usage outside of London?

Sort out local rail services. Pyle and other swanline stations need a proper hourly service start to finish

New Go-op train service between Swindon, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare approved by ORR - Access Rights now lapsed

Its a good idea on paper but I doubt we'll ever see this service happening

    South Wales Metro - Future

The x1 Bridgend to Swansea is being cut by tfw under franchising in 2027. The x3 is to replace the x1 between port Talbot and Swansea and renumbered as service 88 and also serving Goytre The 87 neath to Margam is to be extended hourly to Bridgend at one end and hourly to Pontardawe at the other

How long will the Class 158 & 159 soldier on for?

Id say sort out these restrictions on the expansion of the 3rd rail network. Frankly it needs to bedone the 3rd rail in my mind should at least reach Yeovil junction etc.

    GWR 'Project Churchward'

I think thats why GWR have teamed up with SWR and Chiltern to get a better business case plus a big project is likely ro be quote attractive. Siemens offering partial electrification with their BEMUs could also be a.good seller to the treasury too

    South Wales Metro - Future

A curve would be quite difficult especially with all the development

    GWR 'Project Churchward'

I do think any new units should be a minimum of 3 carriages that would suite services around Bristol tm and Exeter as well as local thames valley routes abd reading however Bourne end will need looking at. The semifast didcots and bedwyns will need 5 carriage units with pairs working the...

    South Wales Metro - Future

I dont think.so at the moment although I think tbey might be able to if the wires were extended closer to the tunnel on the Cardiff side

    South Wales Metro - Future

Based on the current timings an hourly shuttle could pass the Cardiff trains using the existing loop at Tondu. I do think the layout should be retained especially if we see electrification extended west of Cardiff the Margam branch could provide a good diversionary route

    South Wales Metro - Future

Needs resignalling for use by passenger services and the track relade. Also requires the garw loop connection be severed and lifted although the .Margam line is going to.remain. That line needs some use a waste seeing it just sitting there with the.weeds growing

    South Wales Metro - Future

Sure there used to be double track on the branch between wildmill and Sarn.

    South Wales Metro - Future

One part of the document mentions electrification of the mainline between Cardiff and Bridgend if that's the case id wire platform 1a up and platform 3 too the latter for the unit which does the Maesteg shuttle service to recharge between trips
