Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

He died in 1977 so no - but I do vaguely remember it being a piece of comedy to spell Keynsham. Something to do with betting I believe. If there is a blue plaque or anything I didn't see it!

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

I was able to get out for a trip last week and ventured deep into the territory of @TheGrandWazoo so I am sure I will be picked up on any errors of detail! I started the day in Kingswood and quickly established that this was not a place where there was any reason to linger. I took a First...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

I am also incredibly jealous of the trip by @ChrisC to Dundee and thereabouts and it has been written up and illustrated so well as to make my jealousy even worse! I have been to many of the coastal places round here and twice enjoyed sitting on the smokehouse in St Monans as well as eating in...

    Carousel Buses (Go-Ahead group)

Strange today on the 850 as virtually all the double deckers have disappeared from the route, except a couple on Henley shorts. None on Readings today and from about 12.00 yesterday most deckers on Reading runs were swapped with singles at High Wycombe onto other routes. Today the 32 has several...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Just returned from 3+ weeks in Canada and very interested to read this report. Your trip largely paralleled the one I did in November 2024 reported on post 901 of this thread, which was Mansfield > Ollerton > Tuxford > Newark > Bingham > Nottingham > Mansfield > Warsop > Shirebrook > Mansfield...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

First apologies for the delay in responding to @TheGrandWazoo's report on visiting North London. The London network was my main stomping ground when I lived there in the 1980s and I visited all these places, although of course this was well before anyone though of SuperLoop and its routes. But...

    BusTimes.Org

Great. It’s a really useful source of information and if making this money means it continues to be available then that is great. Well done JG for finding the niche, making it work and monetising it.

    Go South Coast

Yes! I have travelled on both the 112 (many years ago) and the 125 (more recently). Both with double deckers- as you say between school runs - both very scenic. The 112 might have been a Spectra, once common in these parts.

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Great to read the report from @TheGrandWazoo from his 2006 trip to the Lake District. It is pleasing that this is generally an area where the level and quality of bus operations has improved in the last 20 years. This is an area I have covered both on buses and on holiday and know reasonably...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Two fabulous reports from @TheGrandWazoo and I'm sorry I hadn't seen the second one until today! The first one is from an area I have only got reasonably familiar with over the past 10 years but I now like very much. Richmond is a glorious town. I did visit Darlington in the 1980s mainly for...

    Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire

That would be outstanding! But the roads are far too narrow for anything other than a Solo. I think they have to be the narrow Solos too.

Best bus routes in western Cornwall?

I would agree with everything suggested above. I would also add the very rural 50 from Truro to St Mawes - most journeys are run by double deckers. From St Mawes you can take a ferry to Falmouth which is scenic of itself on a sunny day. From Falmouth to Helston on the OTS 35/A is another good...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

This is a great journey - I did it early morning in 2022. Not, sadly, on a Lynx. My recollection is that this was the X92, express Birmingham to Kidderminster then on to Ludlow and Hereford. I thought it was all hourly but may be wrong. I think the 192 was the local stopping service to...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

At last I was able to combine a sunny day with a free day and get a first trip on the board for 2026. Tuesday saw me drive to the attractive Cotswold market town of Moreton-in-Marsh for about 8.00 for a coffee and wander around. This is a very pretty town with honey-coloured stone buildings but...

    Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire

The Western Dales S1 runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and connects in Kirkby Stephen with the Stagecoach 563 to Appleby and Penrith. There is no morning departure from Kendal though, but it is possible to do a round trip going via Keswick. Worth doing on a sunny day!

    Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire

A bit longer ago! I did this, the 563, in September 2024. I reported on this in the trips thread, post 881. I don’t think it lasted much longer. I think it can still be done in part on certain days of the week with a change in Kirkby Stephen. Worth attempting as it is very scenic.

    Carousel Buses (Go-Ahead group)

It was a 10A each way - don't know if that makes a difference. It seems to have gone and come back. Could be a ticket machine swap but these are not common on Carousel, I have not seen any vehicle being something when BusTimes said it was something else. But I guess it could have been 80827. If...

    Carousel Buses (Go-Ahead group)

Even though it is school holidays there appears to still be a shortage of vehicles. One board on the 850 is cancelled all day and noted on the website due to ‘technical issues’. There are more Scanias on the road, two have apparently been withdrawn and four others are short term off the road...

    Go Cornwall Bus

No they didn’t, First withdrew their route - along with all their other routes in Cornwall. Go Ahead decided what routes they wanted to run and at what frequencies. Like many other routes, this was less than previously. If Cornwall council decided that was inadequate they could have asked for...

    Sabden, Lancashire

Pretty sure the main route from Burnley to Clitheroe used to go that way until not many years ago. Then there was briefly nothing and then the 64 was introduced. The 64 provides an attractive alternative to the Mainline route 2 - if planning a trip it is scenic.
