    Extending EMR back to York

What 80x order? Do you mean the hypothetical order forum posters regularly wish for, that is unknown to the TOC or DfT?

Automatic Open Crossings (Remotely Monitored), particularly Rosarie

There are posts here dating back to 2012 suggesting Rosarie is the only NR example. Some of them written by @MadMac however.

TRIVIA: Major road junctions where you have to turn off to continue on the original road

The M3 junction with the M27, (as you head through Eastleigh south), is an odd case of two left lanes for Bournemouth, two right lanes for Portsmouth, but go either way for Southampton Central.

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Probably designed for football in an open field between Watford and Wolves…

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Interesting that the painted decorative panel in the video thumbnail is a section cantilevered out beyond the viaduct stonework, (this can be seen at 42s in the video), presumably as said in the captions it’s to carry a platform extension. It looks quite unusual, but I guess it’s only visible...

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

We had a few posts about this, ie only outside toilets, in late January from about here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/things-in-living-memory-which-seem-very-anachronistic-now.272532/page-64#post-7125657 I thought it had more coverage but I found I was possibly remembering the subject...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

The plan in #9532 suggests the new P3 alignment, although shorter, will still likely be straight at the Manchester end, theres a set of points with a line appearing to head west in a straight line. (Although it’s not an accurate engineering drawing it’s probably enough to give an idea?)

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

It’s definitely been pretty well covered already in this thread, on and off since late December 2024, but certainly in more depth recently in late August. There’s little point in repeating the subject?

The future of the Ladywell Bypass

Or put another way, shared use by 3rd and 4th rail trains is normal business in the London area and would be the least of their problems. I think for what would be considered a new tube line the platform height might be the more important question, AIUI having a ‘compromise height’ for tube...

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

PR at that time, ie 5-10 years ago, was nearly always about new routes being operated by new ‘mini-TOCs’ rather than the existing ones. The same idea came up regarding the Northumberland line a few years back, with the possibility of a separate DMU fleet and dedicated depot. I think many forum...

    Older cars you have seen

I don't think the Viva had much of a colour range, that duck egg green was fairly common wasn't it?

Major incident simulation excercise held in Norwich in July

    That size station’s not very common… :D

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Back in 2016 the proposal was for the 6 retained 225 short sets to be used on “Edinburgh fasts”. I suspect that route has now become 100% 9car Azuma instead?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Or to get the best alignment (ie least and smoothest curve radius) for the new platform face at the Leeds end?

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

It won’t be in September, firstly because today’s news item is about outstanding work on the access junction traffic lights that start 16th and run for two weeks until late September. Secondly, the August newsletter (linked a few days ago), mentions that Bebside station car park is planned to...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Yes, in principle nothing will need to change here regarding buried utilities under the road, because they’re not intending to alter the height clearance by lowering any roads?

Possibly not helping accessibility? :D I can delete this after your edit…

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

The Alcan smelting works were demolished about 10 years ago, so have the filters survived the upgrades to Ulgham? I found a planning application that shows the original buildings and the two 1990s harmonic filter cabins all due to be removed.

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

@GraphitProjekt - I’m not quite sure if it’s the best choice to use ‘via Berwick’ in the context of Marshall Meadows. It’s certainly fed from the ‘Berwick area’ DNO substation, but the physical location is some way west of Berwick, at a site called Low Cocklaw.

Yet Another Dire Day On The North Downs Line

It was booked 3 days running, TWTh last week. Seems to have been planned in advance.
