Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I'd say it's excellent. Whilst the Comms team have written it to try to make it accessible to the public, the messages are clearly coming from engineers, and that it's a systems engineering issue. What I'm inferring is that the new trains have met all relevant NR requirements, this is why...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

An easy win is to go beyond Harborough to Wigston Junctions. But given Leicester capacity Scheme seems to have dropped off the radar, perhaps go further, if it can be future proofed (or do it as part of the aforementioned project).

Ran through a level crossing and it is my fault. What now?

Totally agree with this. Whilst a lot of the thread has covered any potential legal consequences, we are all human and mistakes happen, and OP has been open about this. My employer would treat this as a SHE (safety, health & environment) incident, a near miss (or near-hit), realising that...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Returning to topic, the prime minister promised in an interview with BBC East Midlands Today that, if re-elected, the MML electrification would be completed to Nottingham/Sheffield. The temptation to put this news in the Speculative Ideas section was quite strong ;)

New trains for East Midlands Franchise

I thought it might be helpful to summarize what (I think) the consensus is, and the key talking points. 1. Now: current EMR HST fleet quickly dumped in favour of ex-LNER 2. May 2020: ex-HT 180s arrive, and a presumably few ex-LNER HSTs are withdrawn (or fleet utilisation falls further) 3. Dec...

New trains for East Midlands Franchise

Yes the intention appears to be to run the full timetable with 31 trains totalling 163 vehicles, the 804 order is for 33 trains and 165 vehicles*. If the 180 reliability does not improve during 2020, or the 222 declines, then things will definitely get interesting, and plenty of scope for...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

There was a lot of talk on the forum about the performance on diesel in comparison with 222s, and of course the 804 gets another engine over other 80x to address that. What about performance under the wires? Mindful of the big Dec 2020 timetable recast that EMR are consulting on, will full...

    EMR December 2020 Timetable Consultation

I agree, I think there's always room to tinker around the edges of the timetable, but as a compromise I think it's about the best that could be achieved. Any significant improvement or change is going to need direct investment in MML Capacity and/or linespeed. Or because demand patterns are...

    EMR December 2020 Timetable Consultation

Trying to imagine the whole of Wellingborough 'kicking off'... Serious point is that to the average consumer that isn't paying rapt attention to this forum and EMR PR, these trains will feel like a serious downgrade when they show up. Also notable that Kettering, with its non stop services...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Pretty sure it was supposed to be somewhere between Kegworth and Ratcliffe on Soar Village.

East Midlands franchise won by Abellio

Just in case people were not aware, there is already specific thread for the timetable consultation elsewhere https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/emr-december-2020-timetable-consultation.195505/

EMR Electrics - are 360s the right option?

It's basically the furthest South they could stop without a cable in a trough from the substation that is needed to power the new 80x trains

EMR Electrics - are 360s the right option?

The timetable consultation says "over 600 seats per train" which gives an impression of seating density. I think this refers to a 12- car formation. According to the internet (!), A Cl379 has 209 seats and a TPE 350/4 has 205 seats so this gives an idea of the density I think can be expected.

What is the intended lifespan of the voyagers?

I think this would only be done if compelled to do so, I guess a new powerplant would have NOx abatement etc which adds cost and complexity. A more radical repowering (eg diesel/battery hybrid with bimode) is a big investment at mid life and risks one of good qualities of the 22x - reliability...

    Market Harborough Station Upgrade

There's been very little about this since the end of CP5 (it was in the CP5 updates for delivery in CP6, IIRC). I suggest it has therefore been, at best, put into hibernation, maybe for delivery in CP7 Bach on topic there's growing annoyance that the car park is essentially finished but s big...

What is the intended lifespan of the voyagers?

Great post. And with the 27 cl 222s (143 vehicles) being binned by EMR within 3 years too, there could be quite a lot of middle-aged, thirsty high speed DEMUs with not a lot of work to do. Certainly XC could be flooded with capacity and still leave some 22x left over for us to speculate about...

Should EMR have obtained alternative trains to the ex-LNER HSTs?

Exactly. A whole system failure, with every player in a position to, with some justification, point the finger at somebody else. That's what I mean by a lack of accountability
  18. I

Should EMR have obtained alternative trains to the ex-LNER HSTs?

That seems like a rather complacent attitude, given some of the experiences of people who need PRM compliant trains to travel easily. "Hey, we'll just treat them like second class citizens for a few more years, because despite having failed to do this in the last decade, progress is being made...

Should EMR have obtained alternative trains to the ex-LNER HSTs?

That's exactly my point. The reason EMR need to keep using non compliant stick until 2023-ish is that Grayling was happy to cancel the electrification but unhappy to assume accountability for the hole in the rolling stock plan this created. DfT twiddled their thumbs for 2 years and we are where...

Should EMR have obtained alternative trains to the ex-LNER HSTs?

Of course, but the fact that they're having to do this stop gap, should be a much bigger scandal. And to be honest I think a lot of people are quietly comfortable with the fact that nobody's really been called to account for this, especially within DfT who are central to this abject...
