    OBB Austrian Reservations

No. On heavily traveled days (such as today and tomorrow, beginning of Easter holidays), 1st class will often be completely full, simply because people know that 2nd class can become unbearable. It is not that expensive if you have a half-price card.

    OBB Austrian Reservations

First class be will fully booked on this route as well at the beginning of a holiday. Found out myself not long ago…

    OBB Austrian Reservations

Almost all ÖBB long-distance trains are 100% reservable and there are no seats dedicated for walk-up passengers. So, if it’s not an IT problem, it means the train is fully reserved (which outside very few peak trains is unusual in 1st class; when and where will you be traveling?). There are...

    May 2023 changes

That seems to be an international trend. On the Vienna S-Bahn, we used to have lots of 6-to-3-car „weakenings“ off-peak and on the outer fringes of the network. That has virtually disappeared. High staff costs for the maneuvers required and threats to reliability are said to outweigh increased...

Overnight/sleeper trains when the clocks change

Same in Austria and everywhere else I know about.

Just as in the UK then? *tongue in cheek*

    EN40462 Routing

As long as the return working is diverted via Zell am See too, it doesn’t matter anyway. Things get complicated if it doesn’t and there are no good options to turn the train around other than „triangulating“ it in Salzburg (at least none comes to my mind ATM - I suppose it could be done at...

    EN40462 Routing

In Feldkirch, the RJ from/to Zurich always have a dwell (it’s a Takt after all - we tend not to do different paths in different hours) for pathing reasons - the Arlberg (mostly) and the Feldkirch - Buchs line are single track - and because on some trains, a second railjet set will be added or...

    EN40462 Routing

No. All long-distance traffic between the East and the West of Austria goes via Germany, using a chord south of Rosenheim connecting the Salzburg - Rosenheim and the Rosenheim - Kufstein line, avoiding a reversal in Rosenheim station. The chord was built in 1982 (!), paid for by Austria. The...

    EN40462 Routing

I don’t quite understand what you are aiming at. WW1 was a long time ago and trains between Salzburg and Innsbruck have been running via Germany for decades.

    EN40462 Routing

Thank you for this link, very useful! 1678018306 They normally do, but there are works on the „Korridor“ on several occasions in Spring 2023 and diversions via Zell am See regularly occur. It really depends on the date you travel.

    EN40462 Routing

Besides all that has already been said: the reason for it all is that there are various closures of the „corridor“ route via Rosenheim scheduled for April.

Is a supplement required on the "Golden Pass" through Montreux to Interlaken service?

They have four sets and will run a more intensive timetable later this year. The current timetable allows the BLS loco and translator coach to turn around in Zweisimmen; but it’s probably moot because they will like to „run in“ all of their sets anyway. Has the issue - apparently a faulty set...

Praha-Zurich via Germany reinstated, but when will the Praha-Berlin-Amsterdam-Brussels night train be introduced????

Not likely before the Semmering Tunnel opens in 2030; after that, the journey time will be half-way competitive on many segments. Vienna - Rome will never be a major day train segment, but Vienna - Bologna or Klagenfurt - Firenze might well become one.

Praha-Zurich via Germany reinstated, but when will the Praha-Berlin-Amsterdam-Brussels night train be introduced????

Thank you. So mostly hot air, at least in Central Europe, where everybody and their dog can (and do!) run international train services and there really does not seem any need for the Commission to intervene 1677151671 I don’t know about the specifics of the Dutch aid nor about intricacies...

Praha-Zurich via Germany reinstated, but when will the Praha-Berlin-Amsterdam-Brussels night train be introduced????

It *is* a difficult topic, I agree (such as all those rebates that low-cost airlines have received at various airports in the past, which are - when the airport is a publicly-owned entity - subsidies too). The important thing from my point of view is that from everything I know, NJ services are...

[NO] Norske tog orders new long distance trains from Stadler.

Many things are possible, but 542 passengers on an 8-coach-trains with sleeping compartments sound unlikely. I guess the number of 542 is for day-only sets, not for the day/night version.
