I haven't had all my presents yet (Family are all out of the country) but so far, i've got: From Gizzy Acme Thunderer Whistle (Tested this and almost deafened myself) Red & Green Railway Flags Ferret Hammock From Gizzy's Mum Baker's Rail Atlas Quails 1, 2 and 3 (Scotland & IOM...

The "Credit Crunch", and it's effects for everyone...

You can't completely blame the Americans, the British have been just as bad, taking on credit cards, mortages they can't afford, or getting loans secured on their houses on the assumption that prices would keep rising. Had people maybe lived within their means, cutting back on that new car...

Should tthere be public transport on christmas day, boxing day etc.

As someone who can't drive (and won't ever be able to), I'd like to see at least a minimal service run on Christmas and Boxing Days. This year, if there had been trains, I'd have gone to see my Grandparents for xmas day as the rest of my family is out of the country. They can't drive to come...

    Nostalgia - Smokey Joe

I have one of those (Though the LMS version as 16030). Was the first loco I ever owned, and it's still going strong, although doesn't get much use these days, mainly because I don't have a model railway.

    Arriva Class 121 bubble car

It was working just fine when Gizzy and I rode on it in the last week of August.

    Competition 246 :: Voting

Thanks very much to everyone who voted. :-) I was a little worried that Gizzy might submit an almost identical one, as she was standing pretty much next to me at the time.

    Wheelslipping badly

Had a good one the other day with an Ascot bound 458 at Ash Vale (was on the platform waiting for the following London train). The JOP was having real trouble starting away, and could barely make it up to 2mph. At one point the train was even rolling back! As the rear cab passed me (very...

Disparity between road & rail crash coverage

If it is this crash you are thinking of, then it was actually front page news at the time, and there was quite a lot of uproar about it. This is presumably because it was actually public transport, rather than a private vehicle. However, I agree with your point generally, people do seem to be...

    Broken Rails at Wimbledon?

Down trains were most certainly not fine! Stock arriving late into Waterloo meant that outgoing trains were delayed as well. (SWT don't seem to have got the hang of stepping back stock onto other diagrams). My 1755 to Alton didn't depart until 1840, then we had extra stops added at Surbiton...

    Incident at Reading West

When I used the 0512 from Guildford to Woking a few weeks back, that arrived on P4, allowing cross platform interchange with a train from Basingstoke on P2. (The train from Guidlford, (formed of a 444) continued as a stopper to Waterloo, while the train from Basingstoke (formed of 450s) ran...

    Skegness Spoons - 6th Sep

No comment... Though I do agree that we southerners do seem to be better understood around the world than northerners. (I could understand and be understood by people in Scotland, whereas Gizzy has problems).

    'Operating Incident' at Waterloo

There were loads of delays at Waterloo this afternoon, which were explained as being a resut of an 'Operating Incident'. Anyone know what actually happened? (SWT are usually pretty good at advising the real reason for delays).

Competition 236 :: Decaying Rolling Stock

Nope, doesn't matter so long as the stock itself fits the topic.

Competition 236 :: Decaying Rolling Stock

Just to clarify the topic. By 'Awaiting Restoration', I don't mean stock that has been kept in sheds or museums, in good cosmetic condition and just awaiting funds to get it running. I mean stock that has been acquired in near-scrapyard condition and left out in the open, waiting for its...

    Sarah Siddons - 14/09/08

I don't think a yellow warning panel would be required as she probably has 'grandfather rights' to run without (having operated on the National network before privitisation). TPWS and OTMR would be difficult, but not impossible (after all, they can be fitted to main line steam locos) but I'm...

National Fares Manual 01 available on CD-ROM

Anyone know how to get Avantix Traveller to give you prices for Rovers? I've found the codes (FOSW, FOSS etc) but you can't put identical origin and destination or leave either blank, and any other origin/destiation I try with the Rover codes gives me a 'No Fares Available'message.
