    Open Top Bus Routes 2026

Thanks to all who have replied, some very good suggestions so far! Agreed the Lake District open top buses are fantastic. I have just seen that the Stagecoach Thanet open top route 69 has been extended this year and now serves Margate and Minnis Bay. I did this route last year when it was just...

    Open Top Bus Routes 2026

With the summer rapidly approaching, I'd like to get out and make the most of the open top buses which are running around the country this year. I seem to recall a particular bus blog site (think it was Hants & Surrey Bus Blog) used to publish a yearly comprehensive list of all the open top...

    Guess the Station...

All very good guesses, and @paulravuslante you had it going in the right direction, but... Basingstoke it is, well done. :)

    Stagecoach South & South East

Agreed re the poor ride quality. Back when they used to be the main choice of vehicle on the 715 between Guildford and Kingston, the bumpy road between Cobham and Esher was always an experience, with lots of shaking, rattling and an unknown beeping sound every time the bus hit a particularly...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

The button the yellow arrow is pointing to in the image you have attached would not mute announcements throughout the train, only in the cab. The "Disable PIS" button on the Saloon menu next to it would mute all announcements, however this menu is only accessible to the driver. At present...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Thanks for clarifying. With regards to Woking depot, whilst we're still not 100% with 701 competency yet, we're still significantly ahead of Guildford (and of course Farnham) I would think - almost all of our weekday guards diagrams now include a 701 in some form, and being a former Guildford...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Don't quote me entirely on this, but just an educated guess would be due to crewing and traction knowledge at Guildford depot. Most of the Cobham services interwork with the Chessington/Woking circuit, and many of these berth overnight (and begin service) at Guildford, and as such are crewed by...

    Best rolling stock toilets

As far as the trains I sign go, I'd say the 444s and 450s have decent toilets - usually clean and pleasant enough, functionally on the better side and plenty enough of them (especially on a 444). The only issues are the hand dryers can be temperamental and the CET tanks can make the carriages...

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Not by default. It will be a manual input by the guard.

Best coffee shops on the network?

Chain 76 at Hampton Court is a pleasant little place which does good coffee and has rather nice food - independently run and they also offer a loyalty card scheme. Have used it quite a few times when on turnaround there.

    Your favourite stretches of road

Maybe it's just that, in all fairness I've only been along that section twice and it's impressed me both times. Still, one of the (various) highlights of the A87 in my opinion. The bit through Glen Shiel also deserves an honourable mention. :) Perhaps subjective, but I feel mist and rain is the...

    Your favourite stretches of road

I don't drive but my favourite stretch of road would probably have to be the A82 through Glencoe - absolutely spectacular scenery climbing up from Bridge of Orchy, across Rannoch Moor and through the mountains of Glencoe itself. Have travelled along the route many times onboard the Scottish...

    Rules and procedures questions

I would assume that's fine, providing the bells haven't been given to the driver. At my TOC, we are permitted to re-release the doors for whatever reason at a booked station, though I can't speak for other TOCs.

    Rules and procedures questions

Certainly true at my TOC, and rather frustratingly when stopped out of course somewhere you're not booked to call, it's often because of a serious incident making it a challenge to contact control because they're so inundated with phone calls!
