    Supermarkets discussion

Nectar points are useless. I’ve had the app for about six months and been doing occasional shops in Sainsbury’s of up to £10 about three times a week and accrued a grand total of £3.33 in credit. However, there are sometimes great bargains to be had for Nectar users. I had to do some baking...

    Lisbon Public Transport

When I went a few years ago, the trains that ran over the Tagus had a different system to the trains elsewhere and I had the pleasure of being marched to a ticket office to buy a correct ticket. I hope it is simpler now, but if not I am sure someone will be able to explain it better than me.

    “And I was like?”

I don’t know if this is a northern thing, but if you don’t hear or understand something, you say, ‘You what?’ instead of ‘Pardon?’ My teacher would say ‘Yes, I’m hot. Are you hot too?’

    “And I was like?”

Nothing new. I can remember being told off for using ‘like’ in the above manner in the 70s.

Wickford is apparently the home of British naturism. Brighton had a well-known nudist beach.

Anachronistic Song lyrics you'd have to be at least 40 years of age to 'get'

‘Payphone’ by Maroon 5 is increasingly obsolete, even though it was released in 2012.

No notice of cancellation of significant number of services on North Downs Line? (29/09)

Thanks. It’s one of those when you say ‘oh of course’ when you see the answer.

TPE - A rant regarding a poor experience on 27/09

This morning, the train from Sheffield to Cleethorpes at 0711, which could have turned at Doncaster to form a 0741, was also cancelled.

North Llanrwst to become North Llanrwst & Trefriw

Oh dear! Google maps shows a 1.2 mile walk from the village to North Llanrwst via a country lane and a footbridge over the Conwy taking 26 minutes.

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I’d totally forgotten about this. We called it ‘split the kipper’. Our primary school was at the top of a big hill, and in winter if it snowed we were allowed to bring our sledges - proper wood and metal things, not the flimsy plastic ones of today. The school also had a sort of sleigh which...

Northern say don't use dating apps on the train

I cannot see why anyone on a train would need to use a dating app. After all, my local paper’s website says that there are hundreds of hot women just waiting to talk to me.

Gunnislake Branch branch disruption (until at least 27 September)

It apparently takes nine minutes by car from Calstock to Gunnislake along the same route as the 79 bus. As others have said, it is bridging the Tamar that is the problem for cars between Bere Alston and Calstock: but apparently that is only 19 minutes by car.

    Settlement Association

The people of Congleton allegedly used money raised to buy bibles to buy a bear for baiting instead. Another settlement with a dubious animal related tale is Hartlepool, of monkey-hanging fame.
