    Bullying surrounding trainspotting

I was at school in the 1970s/early 1980s and was more of a "spotter for numbers" back then until I "got the bug" for various rolling stock types and mechanical signalling. Yes I was teased/bullied for it but when I told the perpetrators that I had cab rides or pulled signal levers in the local...

    Station barrier staff lacking empathy

I can't imagine gateline staff getting much training - especially as many seem to be agency, or on minimum wage. I've had many encounters with un-empathetic staff who I feel, shouldn't be in customer-facing roles. Decent manners certainly seems to be lacking in many walks of life

    Fare Evasion - Sydenham - 13/12/2023

Unlikely said person would have got off at Victoria knowing it was heavily gated but I expect nothing will be done. Maybe said person will be coming here for advice as and when he gets caught

(Reasonable) Features you'd like to see implemented on RailUK Forums

Thanks :) In terms of the "Russia invades Ukraine" thread (and others); yes it's annoying/upsetting but I just don't read it. I don't read every thread in this forum; just ones that interest me most

Can 17 year old be prosecuted for not paying penalty fare?

I would give her two very stark choices: 1) she earns the money from you by doing chores etc. 2) she can be dealt with more harshly by the magistrates in court If I were your daughter, I suspect I know what choice I would pick.... However, if you are pursued for the money, pay up now before...

    New Signalling, ROC's

I think a lot comes down to reducing manpower and costs - which has been happening for decades; however, there seems to be less resilience in the newer systems as electronic devices are "programmed" to be fail-safe and often fail more easily. I think the grand plan of 12 ROC's for the entire...

Falsely used 16-25 railcard. investigated letter received.

Sadly, that isn't their problem. You will need to find the money somehow, whether it be begging and borrowing from family/friends or working extra hours

    New London Airport

Maybe close Southend and City and build a "combined one" on Boris Island or Isle of Sheppey (with an additional bridge/tunnel rail express link to connect north of the river like the Luton Dart) Maybe in the year 2099...?

    Generational Smoking Bans

I wouldn't support a ban; it's anti-libertarian and discriminatory. And personally, I can't remember the last time I saw a young adult smoking a cigarette. It's all vapes these days. Provided they are well informed, I think anyone should have freedom of choice. I would rather the Government...

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

Realistically, how many passengers travel from Portsmouth to Brighton - i.e. end to end?

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

Oh I thought they changed on 10th December....?

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

I've had a quick look at Southern's website and put in a couple of weekday dates after 10th December - still showing the same timetable as now.... And using the National Rail Journey Planner still shows a change at Hove for Littlehampton (from Victoria)... So the timetables haven't yet been...

    Eating smelly food on trains

Let's have a "no eating" coach; a "no drinking" coach; a "quiet coach"; a "no luggage" coach; a "no electronic devices" coach; a "no-people" coach Honestly; I have more to worry about in life....

Penge West to Penge East. Plenty of journey opportunities there ... :D

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

So really, they need to bring back all control "in-house" so that the relevant TOCs have the freedom to set their own T's & C's (and pay). Why can't the DfT just let go - it's very clear they can't manage anything except send 3 home secretaries to Rwanda ....

    What's your latest acquisition?

Amazing find @4COR 1701797156 Actually...if Hornby can manufacture Bulleids, then they can do a SR 2EPB....

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

Yes, I am well aware of that and wouldn't dream of it. Personally, I think the DfT should hand back control to the relevant TOC's but that's a subject for another thread

    Colour railway slide scanner recommendations

I have an Epson scanner (can't remember model) which will be in full use once I retire.... Always scan at the highest resolution you can get away with. With ever increasing amount of storage space nowadays, file size doesn't really matter
