That's allocated 66420 and 66953
(6Yxx headcodes are Freightliner engineers trains; 6Cxx for Colas)

For future reference, RTT shows GBRf loco allocations - here is the train you saw:

Isn't that the very definition of 'Thunderbird' loco provision - the cost of paying for "readiness" is rapid
recovery of service in the event of a train failure blocking the line in areas without bi-diectional signalling?
MARK
The overriding question to me is why it took almost ten hours to shunt the stricken train
out of the way - surely the availability/location of WCML 'Thunderbird' locos has to be called
into question after this - is it purely down to cost cutting??
MARK
After more than 18 months of delays and postponements, this job is finally taking place this weekend.
Hopefully other long delayed signalling projects, such as Goole and Carmarthen, will get under way
before too long.

Nothing on Wednesday, but 6K73 is booked to run from Sellafield this afternoon:

MARK
The train you saw won't be returning to Sellafield for several days I'm afraid,
as it's off to Georgemas Junction today:

Sorry!
