    Halton Curve upgrade is on

I was looking at the Merseyrail map today and a thought came to me. If Merseyrail trains do turn out to work on batteries, is there any merit in considering running some Elsemere Port/Chester services over the curve to Lime Street? You could then run future North Wales services express from...

    London Blackfriars

That is sort of what I am thinking, are those conflicts in reality reducing capacity that operators are wanting to/could use for other services. I suspect the conflicts are causing delays. However, as it always seems to be the London Bridge input into the core that ia given priority (massive...

    London Blackfriars

I use the loop regularly and I will admit I enjoy and make use of the through trains a lot. A few points/questions if I may. - What is it that terminating Sutton Loop rather than Denmark Hill services at Blackfriars would do for capacity? I am not asking that in a passive aggressive way..I...

passenger confusion over trains going to similar sounding destinations

I do think it is generally a silly idea to have the name of a city within the name of a station in another city. You probably can't avoid it on the underground but maybe they should have renamed London Liverpool Street as London Broadgate when they closed Broadgate. Same with Manchester Oxford...

    Class 333 v 331.

I forgot about the floor level ducting! Dreadful on the 331 and worse than the already bad ducting on the 700's. Why has this become an issue all of a sudden. It isn't on the 333's or original desiros, so why have newer trains from CAF and Siemens ended up creating a new problem they had...

    Class 333 v 331.

Which do people think is the superior unit? One is quite old (and its sister fleet at Heathrow Express is about to be turned into cans). One is brand spanking new. Both will be running on the same routes in West Yorkshire. Both are by the same manufacturer. My vote is the 333 because: - the...

    Northern's 'new' seat covers

I have been on Merseyrail a lot recently (and am right now) and the trains, despite their age, have been at worst a tiny bit dirty but generally great. The seats in particular stand out as very clean. They have an older refurb than Northern and arguably harder duties. Same territory as Northern...

WMT Birmingham to Liverpool unit allocations

Yes but there is also a nice big shiny proper intercity alternative on that route, if you like smelly toilets.

WMT Birmingham to Liverpool unit allocations

Thanks. A further thought...have the ex-TPE units been allocated to go anywhere in particular or are they just going into the general pool? They might be useful on this route.

WMT Birmingham to Liverpool unit allocations

Hi. I am not sure if this is the place to post and I hope not a repeat but equally can't believe it is the first time it has been raised. Every WMT Birmingham to Liverpool I have caught recently has 3 plus 2 seating. I don't use the route much but more now than previously. Is this normal...

TPE Mark 5A coaching stock progress

How easy is it to have a little move around of seats on these trains...is it relatively easy or a pain and damaging to the finishes etc? I say this sitting one row infront of my booked seat on a cross-country HST as I prefered a window with the lovely West Country to a piece of plastic.

    Class 185 cascade suggestions

I would personally consider transferring York - Blackpool to TPE and use the additional units there. That would allow 195's to be used on a more suitable stopping route.

Could Grand Union Trains proposed London Euston to Stirling service be viable?

I would agree in an ideal world, but I just don't trust the UK railway to deliver the portions on time for joining together. The risk of late arrival of an incoming portion feels too high on such a busy railway with such regular delays. For that reason alone I think I would rather go alternate...

Could Grand Union Trains proposed London Euston to Stirling service be viable?

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear. I am aware of the plan for the extra service. My view is that might not be the best use of the paths to match current demand. If pathing allows I would have an extra Liverpool and an extra main West Coast route service every hour. If pathing is constrained then I...

Could Grand Union Trains proposed London Euston to Stirling service be viable?

I would personally go for an extra service to Liverpool and an extra service to Carlisle on alternate hours. I use the WCML regularly to Southport as well as other destinations. Liverpool definitely needs an uplift, but so I think does the main route up to Carlisle as the current services are...

That is a Great name! Would you happen to know of anywhere I might find more information? Google appears to be easily defeated on this one!

Government takes ownership of Class 365 fleet

This is probably a very silly idea indeed for a host of technical reasons, so much so that I have mentally already picked up my coat..but... Now that stadler have a certified power pack running around, are there any classes of soon to be redundant EMU's that could work relatively easily with a...

Government takes ownership of Class 365 fleet

I use these units regularly and don't see the problem. The cleaning regime could be a bit better, especially dealing with bad smells, but the standard of the train is far superior to many in Northern land. I would probably even take one over a 331 as they feel more spacious and I have never...

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

Isn't it!! Not to mention passengers paying for the cab equipment and maintenance of that cab equipment for the next 30 years for no obvious reason.

Government takes ownership of Class 365 fleet

It is almost like the Government has recently realised that the railway continuing to pay for what should be fully written down trains a la most of the Northern fleet for the last 15 years is a little bit silly. It is just a shame the same people haven't been to driving a harder bargain school...
