How do you solve a problem like Bradford?

The fast Bradford trains will run through to Manchester. It'd likely need a tunnel from Manchester to Marsden to provide 8 trains per hour from Manchester to Leeds. Of those 8 trains, 2 or 4 would go via Bradford. This has been under consideration for years so I'd be absolutely shocked if no...

    NPR - Planned Electrification

https://share.google/IW9v8lUYcd7ykXSUm Below is what is said about electrification: I agree that it reads like electrification is included as part of the investment for Leeds to York but I think that's just to keep the reporting concise. TRU electrification is planned to be done by 2030 and it...

    NPR - Planned Electrification

I think what has to be understood about these kind of government announcements is that they're not necessarily written by people who understand the technical aspects of railways. I'm 99% sure this isn't a reannouncement of electrification. I think its an announcement of further upgrades on top...

    NPR - Planned Electrification

The direct route will be electrified. I doubt the route via Rotherham Central will be electrified and I think that will become tram-train only possibly extending through to Doncaster.

How do you solve a problem like Bradford?

The timescales for electrification are the early 2030s. By that time northern will be introducing bimode and battery trains and the Calder Valley line will be the perfect route for those to operate on, given it will be electrified at both ends. I assume the logic behind electrification to...

How do you solve a problem like Bradford?

That's what's being proposed with NPR. Leeds, York, Sheffield are getting capacity upgrades for the existing stations in the first phase. The problem with just doing the station upgrades is that the north is made up of mainly 2 track lines with a mixture of stopping and fast trains. For Bradford...

    Restarting HS2a

I'm not sure the people of High Wycombe would welcome the road works anymore than the people of Water Orton though. The M40 route would impact far more people which is going to mean more opposition.

    Restarting HS2a

So why is there so much HS2 opposition in Warter Orton. Its near a station and is surrounded by motorways.

How do you solve a problem like Bradford?

I'd have thought the best route would be via a rebuilt Crigglestone curve. Yes, Sheffield is at capacity and any freed up capacity is likely to be used by additonal fast services via Wakefield Wesgate, but if there's 4 fast services from Sheffield to Leeds via Westgate, then there's less need...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

The objective is pretty clear, improving rail links between the north's main cities. That's been pretty consistent throughout. It started life, under Osborne, as HS3 which was a single new line from Leeds to Manchester but by 2016 it was a project aimed at improving connections between multiple...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

I do understand an element cynicism when it comes to infrastructure the UK. Its funny though, I spent half of this year in Canada and realised how pessimistic people are in the UK (although I found the candians a bit too positive sometimes). I do think we go over the top with cynicism in this...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

Yes and that's why TRU/NPR is adding capacity at Leeds Station, a new line between Huddersfield and Leeds and improving capacity which could allow more services to the likes of Huddersfield/Wakefield/Sheffield. It might not happen but if it does then interchange isn't going to accommodate it...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

It was awful for capacity though as most reversals are. If it'd been grade separated it wouldn't have been an issue. Does Bradford Interchange have space accommodate 2,3 or 4 additional services per hour and growth in passengers then its probably fine to keep as a terminus.

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

Most of the city can be reached from the centre of the market within 1km (as the crow flies) the on street will be slightly longer. Roads are engineering obstacles that can be over come easily although they add to the cost of the project. The hill is an issue that will make it more difficult for...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

Can't say that's me. I don't really care about revesing. Hull's an example of station that has reversing through services from Bridlington but mos trains terminate so that should remain a terminus station. I'm also not against the NPR/HS2 station being a terminus station because it can be...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

You say you understand it but most the information isn't in the public sphere and you clearly weren't aware of the information that was public. I've been to Bradford but I accept I'm not local. If Bradfords economy is to grow, which it clearly needs to given the economic output, it will require...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

Rejecting a proposal that you clearly don't understand that well is ridiculous in my opinion. It's an extra 350 metres to walk, that isn't going to lead to significant modal shift and most of the city centre will remain with the 1-1.2km that people are willing to walk to a station. Shipley...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

25 minutes from St James Market = 5 minute (it may be slightly more) walk to Interchange and then a 20 minute train to Leeds. Do the saving includes reducing that journey time. 12 minutes is the new expected journey time from Leeds which includes the couple of minute reduction due the improved...

Who are Yorkshire's big winners and losers in the NPR reboot? I'm genuinely confused.

I agree that we need to wait and see the details of the scheme which should be available in the summer. I'd say I'm on the fence but it frustrates me when people come out against something they know very little about. I'm also worried this becomes another Birmingham Curzon Street which...

Victoria is but obviously Piccadilly is the main station and that isn't close to the main shopping area. I really think you're overestimating the distances likely to be involved with the new station but we'll have to wait for detailed plans to be released to confirm. The location of the...
