    Northern fake "Compulsory Reservations" Trial

Even France, the king of unnecessary compulsory reservations, doesn't quota control on their local services. Just utterly daft.

    FIP free coupons, Norway.

Entur (the Government-run retailer for all Norwegian train tickets) have a great guide to FIP in Norway here if you haven't already seen it: https://personalbillett.entur.no/fip-travel-in-norway On a personal level - I spent a week in Norway in January and (whilst mainly there for a conference)...

Travelling via Eurostar to/from a different Dutch station on the outward and return journey

In reality you will get separate barcodes for the NS domestic section/NSI train to Brussels and the Eurostar section to London. As far as I'm aware there's no pricing benefit any more to doing this vs just buying the tickets separately.

New night train start-up - Nox

Indeed! But they are 'branded' Newrest, European Sleeper's are fully white-labelled (from a Dutch company IIRC)

New night train start-up - Nox

I can't remember who they said their operating partner for staffing etc is (a bit like European Sleeper, it'll be a third-party but with the staff in Nox uniforms AIUI), but it's all being done independently of any other state-run train company.

Question about combining Ouigo and Eurostar travel

Ouigo is operated by SNCF’s low cost subsidiary which doesn’t subscribe to Railteam and thus has limited connections protection unfortunately as they only ever sell point to point. The only exception is if using Interrail - as this is one ticket (and Interrail is now valid on Ouigo with a...

24-30 September 2026: 15-50% off Global Interrail Passes

The launch on the morning of day 1 didn't go smoothly on a technical level, so I think the extra day was agreed after this which is very fair.

    *International* Guess The Station

I think it's more likely on the Czech network? But yes, I think we'll need another picture, a track diagram alone is all we've got to go on...

    Strange c2c data omission

Correct (other than flexible tickets via brfares.com - but I'd wait for confirmation buses are actually running at suitable times first). I have complained to C2C on X about it: https://x.com/mdw1989/status/2104547744539160722?s=42

    Strange c2c data omission

The Shoeburyness line is bustituted on that Sunday, and it doesn't look like the RRBs (or at least, those designed to call at East Tilbury) are in industry data.

    Forum loading issues?

How odd.... it seems to be loading consistently fine here. I've made some changes though which will hopefully improve things.

New night train start-up - Nox

The NightJet NG single sleeper cabins use direction-of-travel beds, so they’re fine in at least the majority of Western Europe.

    Forum loading issues?

*le sigh* I have fixed - Cloudflare changed the behaviour of one of its bot fight rules which I didn't catch.

How to change TGV Interrail if necessary

Is it a First Class pass? If so - you *may* be able to use the 'TGV INOUI PRO' app to self-serve rebooking. Otherwise, it's probably easiest to sort this at the Gare de Lyon ticket office/information point.

Eurostar with UK CIV ticket delay compensation

A CIV ticket can protect the connection (though in practice Eurostar nowadays tend to apply the same common sense to other tickets too) but it doesn't link the journeys for delay compensation purposes as they're separate tickets alongside independent contracts of carriage.

    Interrail on the Bernina route

As far as I know, the 'standard' coaches (not the Bernina itself!) - specifically, the ones that act as motive power for the train - don't have reservations at all outside of peak summer in First?
  17. Mike395

    Interrail on the Bernina route

Rail Europe is a bad tool to use for this - it only shows up in Second Class because the First Class area isn't reserveable outside of peak seasons. No reservations necessary or possible unless you want the tourist panoramic carriages, just board the train and enjoy the absolutely stunning views :)

Travelling to and from Europe on Interrail pass

Without going into too much detail - I believe the checks at St Pancras are designed to check a subset of Interrail travellers, particularly during busy periods, as they acknowledge checking every passholder there is impractical, and the same at Gare du Nord in Paris. The Brussels checks are, in...

    European Sleeper experience

Presumably the corresponding northbound tomorrow or Monday will be too. Not great for the first week!

    InnoTrans 2026 Berlin 22-25 September

Nox is showing off their new sleeper service interior too I believe.
