Disruption across the Netherlands due to "Sabotage"

According to the Guardian's Europe liveblog, metal objects were placed to interfere with track circuits and make sections appear occupied. ETA:

Simply Railway has posted a video of the inaugural train from Milan to Brussels. Since Thibault is busy with his own train company now, this one was filmed by Fitia.

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

According to Alstom's animated visualisation, the interior has ramps between the high floor and lower floor areas. If the ramps are shallow enough, wheelchair users would be able to reach toilets in high floor areas. ETA: Presumably the ramps will be shallow enough for a catering trolley. ETA...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

Adessia is a brand that has absorbed a bunch of unrelated platforms and products, including XTrapolis and Aventra models. Even bi-level commuter cars in the USA and Canada are now "Adessia coach solutions".

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

I suspect that this particular incarnation of the Adessia Stream is the Aventra platform restyled by Alstom's design team.

Nox are developing compartment layouts that can be fitted into open seating cars. Conventional couchette or sleeper compartments won't work unless you can rebuild the bodysides with different window spacing. OeBB were fortunate enough to have some redundant compartment seating cars which they...

[CA] Alsthom will deliver 313 rail cars to Via Rail

There were massive cuts to the Via Rail network in the 1980s and 1990s, carried out by both Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments.

[CA] Alsthom will deliver 313 rail cars to Via Rail

Perhaps some LRC cars will be used to bridge the gap between the RDCs and the LDRR cars, but it looks as if they won't have a future after the LDRR cars enter service.

[CA] Alsthom will deliver 313 rail cars to Via Rail

The new Alstom cars will form the Long Distance, Regional and Remote fleet, operating all services except the Corridor. The service featured in that article surely belongs to the "Remote" part. The article was written in 2024, when there probably wasn't any expectation of the entire legacy...

[CA] Alsthom will deliver 313 rail cars to Via Rail

I've read that Canadian winters have not been kind to them, and neither has the sea salt in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

10 feet 3⁄8 inch (3.058 m) according to Wikipedia. The LRC cars, which have tapered sides, are 3.19 m wide. The Venture cars also have tapered sides and are 3.2 m wide. The renders for the Alstom cars show straight sides, which suggests that they will be closer in width to the Budd cars.

[CA] Alsthom will deliver 313 rail cars to Via Rail

Double deck cars would be an obstacle for accessibility. The Transport Canada press release says: This implies that a wheelchair user would have a barrier-free route from the accessible sleeping car to the dining car. This could be achieved by having a single deck accessible sleeping car next...

Glasgow Subway - did anyone ever call it the Clockwork Orange?

Mayor Boris Johnson renamed Crossrail to the Elizabeth Line in February 2016. IIRC TfL had always intended to call the service Crossrail and direction signs with that name had already been installed (and covered) at several stations. Johnson's term as mayor ended in May 2016...

[DR Congo] Videos of ex-JR Hokkaido trains in service Kinshasa–Matadi

A service between N'djili Airport and Kinshasa-Est (which passengers call the Gare centrale) began on Wednesday 19th August. The train is formed of a mixture of old and new carriages hauled by a locomotive. Perhaps the KiHa 183 is reserved for long distance services because hot food can be...
