Why did they have the DLR , rather than extend the Underground/overground

IIRC the P86 trains originally had motorised roller blinds, which didn't work properly. The rotating blocks were a temporary substiute. P86 with a roller blind in use: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DLR-WestIndiaDocks-2.jpg P86 with the roller blind rolled to a blank white space and...

Massive problems with overcrowding on some Irish bus services

That might be because the National Transport Authority also has a rolling programme to redesign bus networks and would probably want to avoid interim changes to routes in areas where services will be completely replanned...

Lisbons funicular suffers catastrophic runaway (03/09)

I read somewhere (probably in this thread) that the two cars are wired the opposite way to each other, such that the current return from one car becomes the traction power for the other. Each car can move only if the other one is drawing power.

Jointly operated train services in other countries.

Moldova - Getting around loco depots?

Railgallery.ru has a stock list for Chisinau depot. You can look up the two numbers you have, see what it says about their status and then see which other locomotives have the same status. There are several different categories for disused locomotives, so the ones you saw might not be officially...

    European Sleeper experience

Are OeBB even going to give up any night stock, or will they use surplus stock to run more services? Meanwhile OSE in Greece had some modern sleeping cars which presumably aren't being used for anything, since all international services were cancelled as part of austerity measures after the...
