Major progress for the campaign as Cheshire East are including this project in their strategic transport plan.
The LEP are finalising the report the rail minister asked for about this project so hopefully there’ll be more progress soon
Yes, you're right - I was thinking of freight via Middlewich.
The campaign Facebook page is reporting that Fiona Bruce MP has been to see Jo Johnson about this project.
The BCR is thought to now be better than 5:1 because the 2009 consultancy report didn't include a platform at Gadbrook or the benefits of linking Altrincham (Metrolink), Knutsford and Northwich to Crewe.
Access improvements for Northwich are already being pursued. See below about passing loops.
What are the obvious patching issues in to Manchester? The campaign group have been told that isn't an issue now the Ordsal Chord is open.
Absolutely not. This part of the country should not have to...
We're not up to much if a single platform with a shelter each for Middlewich and Gadbrook equals major infrastructure changes. Northwich, Knutsford and Altrincham want their trains to Crewe back so it isn't even just about Middlewich and Gadbrook. BCR 5:1
Ok but let’s suppose that, having lost 2 of their 6 MPs along our route at the last election, the government decides they don’t want to lose any more and finds some money (by, for example, using cheaper light fittings at Kings Cross). If there’s the money how do you get your project implemented...
It can't be though -The Government/DfT is saying 'let's look at re-opening Beeching lines/let's make travel efficient in City Regions and then finds billions for London Bridge/HS2/Birmingham New St etc, etc. Stations for Gadbrook and Middlewich will cost pennies is comparison. I think money is...
What are the reasons passenger services aren't running via Middlewich yet? We know it's not paths in to Manchester, availability of land or the state of the track and it isn't any longer the availability of trains.
Good point - the school run to/from Greenbank definitely needs 4 cars and so do the rush hour services in to/from Manchester. Can the Mid Cheshire platforms handle more than 4 cars?
If splitting won't work then perhaps the Greenbank service can be timed not to wait in the siding at Winnington...
Yes, for trains to run asap the project should probably be kept to basics. The track is there so just a platform with shelter each needed for Gadbrook and Middlewich. Is there any reason the May 2018 new service to Greenbank couldn’t split at Northwich and part of it run via Middlewich to Crewe...
I wonder how that question would get answered if we were discussing Mid Surrey services rather than Mid Cheshire.
If a turn around at Crewe is so problematic to be prohibitive my solution would be run them to Nantwich to connect another Cheshire town to it’s Mid Cheshire neighbours.
The towns along the Mid Cheshire Line, (Northwich, Knutsford, Altrincham) along with Middlewich, are the places that can't currently get directly to Crewe. (Warrington, Winsford, Chester, Stockport for example are already directly connected.) Each Mid Cheshire Line town, and the villages in...
One of the great things about Middlewich (pop 14k) is that it's quite compact so a lot of people live within easy walking distance of where the station will be. The whole town is in easy cycling distance. That's all helped by the presence already of an underpass which enables access no matter...
The Northwich transport strategy consultation closes on 31st December. Returning services to Crewe via Middlewich and Sandbach and putting a station at Gadbrook are among the options being consulted on. The survey can be found on the Cheshire West Council web site.
None directly from that but on Friday the campaign group added Mike Amesbury MP (Northwich) to their list of confirmed supporter MPs along the line. That makes 3 (the other two are Fiona Bruce and Esther McVey.)
Middlewich station will be used by lots of Manchester commuters but at 2,500 passengers a day will Gadbrook be the busiest Mid Cheshire Line/Link Line station?
I thought people might be interested in this article from the Northwich Guardian today about a station for Gadbrook Park: http://www.northwichguardian.co.uk/news/15634357.Roberts_Bakery_boss_welcomes___2m_sliproad_funding_____but_Gadbrook_Park_railway_station_is_ultimate_goal/
