    Great Western Contempt

I applied the term "arthritic" to Cubic's glacially slow barriers. Pay attention.

    Great Western Contempt

Because the platform was severely overwhelmed with the large number of inconvenienced passengers' travelling on the few running GWR trains. It was a stampede at the barriers.

    Great Western Contempt

On Friday, "First" staff boarded the 14:17 from Bourne End to Maidenhead and coldly told the passengers that the "service" had been cancelled. The indicators showed that the next train, the 15:17 was "on time". However, First just cancelled this too. After waiting for almost two hours I...

Southern's Fantasy Timetable. Victoria to Salfords: One and three-quarter hours.

The 05:32 from Victoria to Ore was again delayed this Monday by more than fifteen minutes owing to a staff member's going missing. In these cases, the Southern train makes up time by not stopping at any minor stations, like Salfords. A brilliant wheeze. No problem, I thought. I'll get the...

Why doesn't the 5:32 from Victoria to Ore stop at Salfords on Monday?

Next Monday I shall check the exact departure information before I board. I don't know whether the 5:32 last Monday claimed it would stop at Salfords as it usually does, or not: I just assumed its normal behavior; my mistake. There's still a lot of maintenance equipment's hanging around...

Why doesn't the 5:32 from Victoria to Ore stop at Salfords on Monday?

This service has missed Earlswood and Salfords for the past two Mondays. It sails through on the fast track.

Gatwick Express Confusion on Tuesday at 5:30 as the trains don't run..

No, they didn't. Southern Gatwick 'Express'? I don't think so.

Gatwick Express Confusion on Tuesday at 5:30 as the trains don't run..

Thank you aleksander: that was _exactly_ my point... as if I'm making up this stuff. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- And yet the gormless Red-Coated Gatwick Express staff let their passengers go through the gates to wait on the platforms but told them nothing about the delays...

Gatwick Express Confusion on Tuesday at 5:30 as the trains don't run..

The 5:45 service today did not run. The whole Gatwick express service was moribund. The Gatwick Express site never explained this lack of their service. The message display boards on platforms 13 and 14 just said "See timetables for details". At one point, the expectant crowd of...

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

This is exactly what is happening.

Who is this "we" of which you speak?

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

What "leaflets advise" is not what "people" usually do. ushawk's assertion that "People always add a good couple of hours before catching a flight" is a lazy asinine nugatory ipsedixetism and patently false.

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

Yeah, right. What is your authority for that bizarre proposition?

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

Yes, I would build in that time; but my post was not about me, it was about the typical late [Gatwick] Express users - the type [Gatwick] Express previously courted. I see them every day as they sprint up the Victoria platforms.

Gatwick Express: There are now no ticket checks onboard

No, my point here is that the Gatwick Express staff on-board - if any - are no longer checking passengers' tickets as they used to do. This is a different albeit related subject.

Gatwick Express: There are now no ticket checks onboard

On-Train ticket checks have now vanished on-board the [Gatwick] Express. Strangely, Gatwick Express are now recruiting for staff.

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

Gatwick Airport - and other airports - should be different because its users are often in a rush to catch their 'plane. Travelers on "every other train in the country" mostly don't need to catch a 'plane - correct me if I'm wrong - and don't have strict time constraints.

Brighton line problems 13/12/11 (Due to suicide, affecting Southern & FCC services)

The 15:35 Gatwick Express ground to a full stop at Purley today owing to the Police's requirement to investigate a suicide. The train silently arrived at Purley. Fewer than a quarter of the lights in my carriage remained illuminated, and it started to get very cold. There was no power from...

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

Southern Only tickets might well be valid on the Gatwick Express, but Gatwick Express's on-train announcements before departure at Gatwick claim that they are not, and advise that passengers with Southern tickets get off the Express and board a Southern train instead.

[Gatwick] Express: You must now buy tickets before boarding.

"Ticket gates are being introduced at Gatwick Airport and London Victoria railway stations. From Monday 12th December you will not be able to buy your ticket on the train." Passengers will find the "Express" slower than usual when they have to queue for tickets before they can even get on.
