How can poor performance be reflected in fares and who should fund this in a nationalised railway?

Moderator note - split from: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/2025-fares-from-2-march-2025-now-in-journey-planners.281125/ As passengers that’s not our problem, it should start with pay freezes for management and above.

2025 fares from 2 March 2025 now in journey planners

Absolutely disgusting, Northern should show improvements and demonstrate consistency in said improvements for at least the remainder of 2025 before being allowed to raise fares.

Manchester 13/14 Shoutiness Spreading across the Pennines

I would hardly call a shoe width step over the line to walk round a pushchair ‘risking my safety’, but each to their own.

Manchester 13/14 Shoutiness Spreading across the Pennines

I got bellowed at at Wigan North Western a couple of years ago as I dared to walk the 'wrong' side of the yellow line to avoid some pushchairs which had congregated at a narrow point. One day they're going to shout at the wrong person and they're not going to like the outcome.

    ORR P-Code data releases.

Either that, or have each one approved by a regulatory body. Tree down on the line? Not a problem. Storms forecast which pose a risk to safe operation? Yep, fine. Using them as a “get out of bad management free card”? No, own it and cough up all the delay repay.

Northern- Why Can't we vent anymore?

Northern were offensively awful yesterday on the Blackpool route, often 2-3 trainloads wedged into 4 cars with everyone being patronisingly told "move down inside the carriage please".

    Why is CrossCountry so overpriced?

Because the trains are packed with people making relatively short trips (such as using them instead of Northern), splitting, or on Advances, and as soon as people need to make a ‘full fat’ XC journey like Newcastle to the South West, they see the eye watering fares for a family and choose to...

    Why is CrossCountry so overpriced?

Because when the Arriva franchise was let they MASSIVELY overbid, expecting people to be using it for long, profitable journeys. As it turned out, the trains were (and still are) mostly full of people doing short to medium distance journeys like Leeds to Sheffield, so the only way they could...
