Poor service at Brighton on weekdays

One of my biggest gripes has been the poor provision of services on the Coastways from Brighton! The West and East Coastway timetables pre 2020 were some of the best on the network, and did a brilliant job of combining connectivity, frequency and both faster and slower sevices. With only 2tph...

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

I'd have thought that for Paddington and Liverpool Street at least it would make sense to integrate the two stations as some services may depart from the legacy platforms in peak hours and/or disruption.

    May 2022 Timetable Changes

Very disappointed at the poor provision of Southern's 'Coastway' services. Especially in the summer months, these trains will be rammed. At least restore the West Worthing shuttles.

What are the chances of any Farewell railtour?

West Coastway (Havant A Clue How To Improve It?)

In terms of passing loops, would installation of crossovers at Worthing so that Platform 2 becomes bi-directional go some way to providing a loop in the down direction between Hove and Barnham?

Thameslink and Southern timetable reduction from 26th July 2021

The coastway NEEDS more services on a Monday - Friday basis. Services are RAMMED

Thameslink and Southern timetable reduction from 26th July 2021

On Mondays to Fridays, it appears 313s are the dominant traction on Brighton - Portsmouth services, with 377s on weekends.

Thameslink and Southern timetable reduction from 26th July 2021

Such a retrogade step imo. The trains from Brighton to the East and West Coastway have been rammed in the past few weeks.

Trivia: Stations that don’t have a direct service to their largest market

I'd argue maybe the Southern coastway routes are more focused to Brighton. Or at least the primary market is shared between Brighton and London

    Cardiff-Portsmouth - Rolling Stock Solutions?

Think Turbostars would be a good fit for this route, with 2/3 doors and a decent interior layout for an inter-regional service. ISTR FGW considered ordering some 172s at some point for the route? Only problem would be the lack of corridor connection between units, but if services were formed of...

Should Southampton to Portsmouth be solely run by South Western Railway?

What about cutting the Southern services altogether replacing with an additional GWR Bristol/Great Malvern to Brighton every hour? The current daily GWR is well used, but replicates the Southern service, indeed running just behind it as far as Worthing. As a limited stop service that would...

"Let's get back on track" - New advertising campaign

I really like the way they use the GA Hare, very prominent on billboards and on adverts. But I agree that people still associate GA with clapped out 153s and 156s instead of the fanatasic 755/745s

What is the eventual plan when Battersea is opened? Will the line be split into two permanent branches in the near future?

    Least successful new stations

I'm sure we'll be adding Reston to this list in a few years time!

Which station platforms would you add additional facilities to?

Seconded. Can be a very bleak place to wait. Some more seating and departure boards wouldn't go amiss either

    Trivia: TOC minimum/maximum train lengths

A different route, but normally one (or both) of the Uckfield - Oxted shuttles on Sundays are 2 cars.

Best and Worst Major Interchange Stations

Another vote for Stratford, confusing layout (where the hell is platform 10A) and poor facilities on the platforms and in the station.

    Uckfield line to be electrified?

https://www.uckfieldfm.co.uk/2021/features/breaking-news-uckfield-line-to-be-electrified/ Came across this article in the local news today. Can anyone shed any light? If it goes ahead, I guess EMR will get their Class 171s after all!

Brighton to Hove and...that's it! Is this the reason?

Worth mentioning that the West Worthing services are not running due to the COVID-19 reduced timetable. Brighton/Seafords are usually 100% 313s, as well as the Hove Shuttle (Brighton-Hove-Brighton etc). Further afield, 313s also operate Littlehampton - Portsmouth & S/S and Littlehampton/Barnham...
