    1973 stock withdrawal

I assume the only unit withdrawn at present was the one destroyed at Russell Square on that dreadful day in 2005?

Why do major European bus manufacturers still avoid the UK?

A lot of European single deck chassis are optimised for city operation (full low floor, triple door) and of course are LHD. Pretty much every Citaro I've caught in the UK has a sub-optimal interior layout because it's the exact same chassis just converted to RHD and only one door fitted. The...

East London Line before December 2007

When Canada Water was first planned, was it considered as a replacement for Rotherhithe station or simply an additional stop to take advantage of the Jubilee Line Extension? I know there was concern Rotherhithe and Wapping might have had to close permanently when the line transferred to London...

East London Line before December 2007

I only travelled on the East London Line once before the closure and upgrade to London Overground standards, which was in August 2007 between Whitechapel and Canada Water, and it really was an incredibly fascinating backwater, the likes of which we'll probably never see again in London. I was...

    First Eastern Counties

I believe the Electroliners are currently being used to provide extra capacity on the Norwich network in the run-up to Christmas. The bonfire of B7s and mass cascades of B9s probably won't begin until January at the earliest. I would imagine B9s will be cascaded to Yarmouth, Lowestoft and First...

Trivia: Preserved Buses which were scrapped

The Bromley Bus Preservation Group acquired and repainted R834MFR, a Volvo Olympian new to Metrobus a few years back. It appeared at several rallies and running days throughout the 2010s. Sadly, it was riddled with the usual chassis rot which affected Volvo Olympians of this age, and the bus has...

    First Group: General Discussion

That being said, there's images of the first Kites for First Solent on the Firstbus Enthusiasts Facebook group today showing them in the light blue Solent livery introduced last year, so guessing maybe the electric livery is a template and not standard? In addition, it looks like local livery...

The rumour I've heard is that these are going to Wood Green for the W3.

    London Buses Discussion

Having spent some time around Wood Green and Dalston this week, what was the reasoning behind the 67 having its entire southern end hacked off? Other than one small section of road in Haringey the route is pretty much useless, being duplicated by the far busier and useful 149 and 243 from...

    London Buses Discussion

Walthamstow Central is a good bet, with the 69, 212, 230, 357 and W15 all fully electric. There's also two random E400EVs which were bought by CT Plus for school routes, which can often turn up on the 20.

Trivia: Services which are run by one depot, but could be run by more

Arriva London South runs the 250 (West Croydon-Brixton) from Thornton Heath depot, roughly about a third of the way along the route northbound. It also passes Brixton depot and Brixton Tram Depot, both also run by Arriva. South Croydon depot isn't too far away from the southern terminus either...

    London Buses Discussion

I believe Metrobus (Orpington) has chargers already in place for the 353's E400EVs, whether there's enough for the new 358 fleet is up for debate! Still can't help but feel the Irizars will end up as a future "Classic Blunderbus" in Classic Bus Magazine, based on nothing but my gut feeling...

    Historical: London's Daimler Fleetline question

As a Londoner, I'd just like to point out that West Midlands PTE were doing the exact same thing as LT in the 1980s, withdrawing Fleetlines after rather less than a full service life and replacing them with Metrobuses (of which most of them did 20+ years easily). I believe the plan was for...

    London Buses Discussion

The W7 is basically the tube service for Muswell Hill and Crouch End, hence why it's so frequent. London Vehicle Finder doesn't cope well with the W7, often buses will just disappear from it

Are there any London bus routes that aren’t turn up and go?

The 313 is only every 20 minutes at best, despite serving Chingford, Ponders End and Enfield.

Begging getting more common on the railway?

Last time I saw a tissue beggar was on C2C between Southend and West Ham last year, he wasn't getting any takers so he nonchalantly decided to change trains at West Ham, and I saw him fail miserable trying to dive onto a late Shoeburyness train which was just about to leave from the other side...

    London Buses Discussion

Didn't know Leyton garage covered the 96, that's a hell of a lot of dead mileage there  For serious though, Plumstead have about 5 or 6 Scanias left, which probably won't see the year out. The ranks have already been thinned out by various spare E400s from other parts of Stagecoach London...

    London Buses Discussion

At present the N63 uses 61-plate E400Hs from the 381 or 17/18-plate E400MMCs from the 45/196. I'm expecting the 61-plates to go when the 381 gets its new electrics, but the MMCs should be around for a considerable time yet to service the night routes.

    Stagecoach Manchester discussion

There's still an enormous amount of 2008/09 E400s in the Stagecoach fleet, which are looked after very well but are getting on in years. I've seen rumours on social media that apparently the 58-reg B9TLs used by First and Go North West are now too old for TFGM, with a few people suggesting...

    First Essex

According to the Basildon depot manager on FirstBus Enthusiasts Facebook group, the last Enviro 300H finished last night, and the last five Volvo hybrids will be withdrawn this evening. Replacements are apparently going to be some long Streetlites from Colchester, made surplus by the X20 changes...
