    Driver's favourite rolling stock

I find 170s very comfortable for longer runs on the whole, and I'm 6'2". If you have the seat at full height, you can put your foot up on the dash. The DSD is well positioned and doesn't need too much pressure, the cab is almost silent in terms of engine noise (constant air con makes a racket...

Trivia: shortest time between passing two stations

Carnoustie to Golf Street is 43ch, in the middle of a very long 100mph PSR, thats got to be about the shortest time in Scotland at least.

Where can CrossCountry trains reach 125mph?

Joppa Straight is 95mph. Its mainly 110 Monktonhall Jn to Dunbar, with 125 between Monktonhall and Blindwells, and Drem and East Fortune. 125 Oxwellmains to Innerwick too I think. Innerwick to Berwick is 95 tops as its pretty bendy. Other than that there's a longish 125 between Beal and near...

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

Three LNER drivers lodge per night, in normal timetable anyway. Inverness: 1x NCL driver who works up to Inverness, takes set for fuel, lodges (9hr turnaround for lodging as you're deemed to be on duty throughout, rather than 12hrs any other time). Aberdeen: 1x NCL driver who works up, takes...

    Driver Depots

Shields do 156's, East Kilbride and Kilmarnock being the only two routes they'll do with them other than ECS to and from Central and Corkerhill. I don't actually know why they do diesels, I can only assume it's to do with things going for TPM? Or maybe they just didn't have enough work?

    Driver Depots

For anyone interested in ScotRail (current) route and traction knowledge on the non-DOO side, its; Queen St (80ish drivers in two links, one link does electrics and the other does HSTs) - Queen St to Perth, Edinburgh (via Croy and also via Cumbernauld), Anniesland, Alloa, and Oban. 156, 158...

    Driver Depots

Hi. There isn't a traincrew depot at Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock is served by Ayr, Corkerhill, Shields, Stranraer, and Dumfries drivers.

    Failed Medical.

I can't see why getting turned down for mobilisation in Afghanistan could possibly be a bad thing.

5x Class 153 conversion to bike and baggage vans for Scotrail

I don't know where this bat**** crazy idea of sticking a 153 in the middle of a 156 has come from that people are discussing on here? The way they will (I thought obviously) operate is to still be independent units, with diagrams that see them utilised only to beef up certain WHL trains. They'll...

    Northern Class 170's

Speaking about 170 performance, whilst they are slower off the mark than a 158 it's not a huge difference, they are totally interchangeable with 158s up here on commuter work. For example, the Fife circle is probably similar to the work they are doing in Yorkshire, with a brief spell of 100...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

So ScotRail should use one of their units to cove extend one of their trains because LNER caped their Inverness at Perth? Nothing you see stabled is ever just gathering dust, everything has a somewhere to be and ScotRail cannot, and should not, short change their own passengers in order to...

Train hits buffers at Victoria (08/05)

Six feet is generally the distance to stop short of any obstruction (buffers, another train, etc). Normally what will happen now is the driver concerned will get medscreened, interviewed in depth, the set will be downloaded (OTMR), mechanically checked, likewise any infrastructure involved...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Yeah route knowledge. The only drivers who sign that route are electric DOO guys from Helensburgh, Yoker, Airdrie, or Bathgate. Neither Edinburgh nor Queen St have the route, and they're only central belt depots that work HSTs.

    Driver Depots

For ScotRail, both Corkerhill and Shields depots are driver depots also. Other than that the lists are perfect.

    3 New services for Dunbar

Hi In reference to the previous points, I've worked three Dunbar services since they came in, and the most I've had is 12 passengers! We were told when we routelearned Drem to Dunbar that we'd probably be routelearning Berwick next year, and Newcastle 2012/2013. ScotRail have applied for three...
