Now you are being silly. 222s can be reformulated to any length from 3 to 9 cars; depending where the fleet is cascaded to, the TOC can reallocate as the mood takes them.
Up to a point; you are making the standard error of trying to set service patterns according to stock, rather than...
But that's the point; IEP bimode will not be scrapped.
It's not an economic or engineering issue; it's pure politics. DaFT have ignored all rational arguments to the point of ridicule (see Modern Railways' Informed Sources over many months).
Hence my suggestions above ignored the GW and...
Depending on the rate of MML electrification, ordering new electric stock and simultaneously adding a panto car to most of the 222s would allow early retirement of the HSTs - or cascade.
Then, as the need for diesel reduces and the electric fleet grows, pass the surplus 222s to XC - both bimode...
While it seems to be against the consensus here, I'd argue that any significant new electrification on the Southern would be AC, not only because of winter, but for the greater efficiency it brings, not to mention the increasing use of cross-regional traffic.

I wouldn't bet £1 on it until Roger Ford confirms
Anyone know why they didn't save time (and probably cash) by buying the Irish Rail Mk 3s which already have powered doors? Chances are they'll need extra stock in the near future anyway, and any excess could be cascaded usefully to ATW.
