Because people do silly things and its dangerous. Personally, i can't imagine a heal and safety executive being thrilled to sign off a forklift truck being used at a busy station with millions of people.

No I'm just being real. Its not as simple as it seems. Also my point was about riller balls on the platforms. There wouldn't be space for a permanent set up in many stations. You'd need a siding with a purpose built facility / platform

Thinking about it, a long term strategy for reducing costs is to have level boarding. That way passenger assist has less demand so you don't need as many staff.

It certainly was. But even GA messed up their FLIRTS because theres no space for a wheelchair passenger in first class. We're plain awful at buying trains or doing a proper internal layout is my conclusion.

I'm going to say it: Disabled people being able to easily use the train network died when Driver Only started. Should have started making the network more accesible through level boarding years ago!

Disabled people at unstaffed stations getting very angry... Trying to resist going on a rant about this in the "death kneel for high floored trains thread"!

Digital predictive maintenance is the only meaningful way I can think of reducing costs across the whole network. But that would require a lot of investment that realistically the treasury wont have at the moment.
