I think having the ThamesLink core on the tube map makes sense (and probably the Northern City Lines too)- and continue to link it in with all the TfL/CityMapper journey planners etc- but otherwise I'm not sure it needs to be part of TfL. From an end user's point of view- the London sections of...
In Canada the overheads have doors, like on planes. At least on some stock- the units used on the UP Express from Toronto Union Station to the airport have them, as do the LRC cars used by VIA Rail from Toronto to Ottawa.
If timetabled well, that could work @Manutd1999
Particularly if there were cross-platform or same platform transfers timetabled in, to minimise the disruption to those going longer distances.
I'm not sure if cutting out those stops, which are part of regular Northern stopping services to Crewe from Piccadilly or Liverpool, are going to do much for those who are taking the train from further afield. There are already a lot of destinations served by direct trains from the airport...
I agree- infill is not the best word for Basingstoke to Exeter, but I was more thinking about how to remove the remaining diesel services around the SE and in particular, into central London. Currently Uckfield and the WoE line are the only non-open access diesel services into London that don't...
Hence why it's a big IF!
The concept is fine, it all seems to be issues around the execution. If I had a magic money tree, there would be some bi-mode dual voltage Stadlers ordered for the line and for the west country, but there we go!
I'm not sure how many diagrams GWR need, but there...
Agreed- don't hold your breath- but this is still definitely welcome news. Infill for the Basingstoke-Salisbury-Exeter, Uckfield, Marshlink, and North Downs would eliminate a lot of diesel over 3rd rail running and be a huge step for decarbonisation, and likewise expansion of the MerseyRail...
Having lived in south Manchester, there's a good reason why I used to take the train from Maudleth Road despite it being quite a walk despite the buses available. I trust the train, I don't trust the bus! The number of times I'd be waiting for a bus for 20+ minutes past its scheduled time was...
I think that's more Apple's implementation than anything else- my OnePlus charger will charge my phone (OnePlus 9 Pro) at 65W via their proprietary 'Warp Charge' protocol, my laptop (MS Surface Laptop 3) via USB Power Delivery at 45W, or my headphones (Sony in-ear ones with some stupidly complex...
I don't think compulsory reservations are a good idea, but being able to make a reservation for your regular anytime ticket up until a few minutes before the train leaves is a very good idea. That's easy enough when buying the tickets- but there needs to be a way of reserving a seat for your...
I've been on an SWT 159 with an engine out. This was part of at least a 6-car consist, so it wasn't particularly bad time wise. The saloon lights were off, AC off, windows open, quiet on a nice warm summer's day. It was a lovely ride down to Salisbury!
I wonder if one of the reasons OP's...
And the 378s have sliding pocket doors, not plug doors. The 376 has the pocket doors, the rest of the Electrostars (and the Turbostars) have plug doors. That would lead to a necessary change in the interior arrangement due to the different location of the doors in relation to the side wall of...
I think actually station car parks could be a good place for companies like InstaVolt to put in a couple of fast (50kW+) chargers. Station car parks are normally easy to find, well lit, safe, and well connected into the road network. I don't think slow (7kW) chargers are the best option due to...
With a magic money tree, I'd want a bunch of 5-car bi-modes (with DC, AC, and diesel*) for the Portsmouth-Cardiff run, with a similar unit without the AC capability for the Waterloo-Salisbury-Exeter line. Think along the lines of a bi-mode 444. Would make sense to electrify out to Temple Meads...
The boards with 'Next fastest train' displayed are very handy at busy stations. Especially when the alternative is to hunt through the departures boards looking for your destination!
Cannot see the point of rebranding EMR Connect into 'Luton Express' though. Especially as Luton is just one stop...
