Getting Avanti to pay delay repay on split tickets - best way

My experience claiming on split tickets (but paper, not e-tickets) is that their first response is to pay based on the value of one of the tickets. After an appeal they pay some more to bring it to the correct amount. My claims and appeals are made through the automated service. I fear getting...

1948 incident near Winsford involving passcom and signaller error

See also Gare de Lyon in 1988 - 56 deaths. As at Winsford, there were other factors, but an unnecessary emergency stop was the first cause.

Times you were given too much...

There was a wonderful spell a few years ago when Virgin couldn't cope with all the claims they were getting and just sent a £50 voucher to anyone who wrote in.

And I believe the Pomona Docks were so named because they served the apple trade.

Plastic Network Railcard not arrived after 5 working days

When I renewed my 3-year senior railcard recently, it took the full five working days to arrive. Previous cards were delivered the next day. And (OT) they didn't send me a reminder to renew. It's not surprising we're seeing so many passengers with discounted tickest and no valid railcard.

Northern on board QR scanning - does it mark a ticket as ‘used’?

It seems that in this case a ticket has been presented and scanned in error, and then marked as used in some database. (1) Shouldn't the scan have detected that the ticket wasn't valid for the train, and therefore not marked it as used? (2) In any case, should the inspector be able to cancel a...

Rules and current situation regarding train travel to Belgium and Germany

I travelled to and from Sicily in early October. Out via Belgium, Germany, Austria. Return via Switzerland, Germany, Belgium. The only checks were at London (outward) and Brussels (return).

    Avanti seat selector on Trainsplit

I think the big gaps are other seats, unreservable for social distancing.

    uk.railway Google Group

The group was attracting huge amounts of spam from drug dealers. Google apparently decided they couldn't cope and have removed access to it. This has stopped the spam. As noted above, you need to find a Usenet client and server. I use Thunderbird and Eternal September (both free).

Problem with Trainsplit - offering me journey then saying one ticket not available

I once got into a similar black hole (from which there's no escape) with Trainsplit. I think the answer is to clear their cookies.

    Crewe Delays 16 Sep

Experiences on the 1215 Manchester to London train today... The incoming train arrived about 1215, with about three train-loads of passengers (at the current reduced levels) waiting on the platform. When we were all settled, there was an announcement that the staff would have to check numbers...

Amending tickets booked with TP Express

No, I was charged the standard £10 fee. I understood that TPE might have done it for free (if they could do it at all). Doing it at the station ensured that it was done before the original train departed. Should it have been free, even at a station? I think Advance tickets (and especially...

Amending tickets booked with TP Express

I tried to change the ticket at Euston. As it was bought on-line they can only change it to a flexible ticket. I tried at Manchester Piccadilly. As it was bought on-line they can only change it to a flexible ticket for immediate travel. I tried at Manchester Victoria, where it cost £10. The...

Amending tickets booked with TP Express

Thanks for all the advice. I'm aware I could go to a ticket office, but was hoping to avoid that. And wouldn't that cost £10 (TPE are advertising free changes)? I will buy a new ticket and then engage with their customer services. I'm sure that in the past I could do it on-line through TPE...

TGV crew make unscheduled stop to remove anti-masker

Intrigued by the guard's use of ptdr (twice) I looked it up. Pété de rire corresponds to PMSL (which I also had to look up...).

Amending tickets booked with TP Express

I have an Advance ticket, bought on the TPE web site (and collected at a station). The travel date is in the future. According to the web site, "You can now change your Advance train ticket for free and will only have to pay the difference between an old and new fare" and that I should "Go to...

TRIVIA : International train services where 'on train' Customs Examination and Immigration checks take place

No it doesn't appear in brackets, but there are lots of examples (at least in my copy) of the symbol not in brackets. Table 13 has three. Sometimes (when a through train uses a different route from the timetable), the symbol is also used in a footnote. E.g table 44. International tickets...

TRIVIA : International train services where 'on train' Customs Examination and Immigration checks take place

When did that happen? My June 2019 edition includes the customs house symbol, defined as Frontier station.
