Real Time Trains 2025 Christmas Special

Strange it's serving Sampford Courtenay and Norton Bridge as station closed. Although it's serving Wedgwood and Barleston but these 2 are not officially closed, just not normally served.

I genuinely look forward to the yearly special Christmas train on real time trains. Yes, sad I know but that's just me I guess.

Thanks all. I hadn't realised there would have been so many variations/ programmable options.

    Mothballed, Closed or What ?

Barleston and Wedgwood mothballed. Not currently served by trains but not officially closed either. Been in this status for a long time now.

London Northwestern Class 350 Destination Displays

On the London Northwestern Class 350 (all subclasses) , can the destination displays show any/all of the stations served by London Northwestern or just certain ones used for terminating? I've compiled a list below of destinations I've seen so far but are there any more to add? Thanks. Crewe...

Difference between the terms "Guard" and "Conductor"?

Thanks for everyone's replies. I hadn't realised just how many variations there were/are. I tend to use conductor and then driver obviously for the train driver. Don't like the sound of captain and manager.

Difference between the terms "Guard" and "Conductor"?

I've got a question in 2 parts... Is there a difference between a guard and a conductor on trains? Also, why do some guards/conductors scan smartcards but others just look at the smartcard and assume it contains a valid ticket?

Locomotives & rolling stock which people might consider "haunted"?

I was on 350232 yesterday morning and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary although I wasn't sat near the toilet.

First-time user - Ticket gate etiquette at busy termini?

I use wide aisle gates when there are no people around with bulky luggage, pushchairs, wheelchairs, mobility problems etc who are a higher priority in my opinion. Staff have seen me use wide aisle gates to enter and exit, never been stopped or told these are for disabled only.

[trivia] Stations named after a private organisation

How about Ramsline Halt? This was the very short lived Derby FC halt just before Derby station. Also, there was Butlins Filey Camp station.

    Reopening of bay platforms Crewe

Below are a couple of photos showing the now fairly cleared bay platforms (off platform 12) at Crewe station. I took these yesterday morning in a rush though.

    Reopening of bay platforms Crewe

I'm frequently at Crewe but not been round that side for a while. It might just be general routine work maybe? I seem to remember the bay platforms nearest to Locomotive Services got cleared about 3 years ago but I know it's soon grown back since. I'm intrigued though.

    RealTimeTrains website

Ah yes, I've just seen London Northwestern train allocations this morning. The 350s actually looks good. Been waiting ages for these to appear. Thanks so much for adding them.

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

I was on 170501 yesterday at Crewe. Very impressed by the interior refurb. As other people have commented, the ceiling and wall panels around the doors could have done with a deep clean. The nice clean tables, carpets, seat backs make the unclean areas more noticeable.

Trivia: Stations that still have BR era (or older) signage?

At Congleton just off platform 1 there is a station name sign in lovely original rail alphabet, black on white. It's strange at Congleton as there are quite a few new signs in rail alphabet 2 but look carefully and there's 1 or 2 original rail alphabet ones still there. My own photo below shows...

    EMR 170 Allocations

Yes, it's definitely down to luck. On the Crewe route the London Midland ones are most common. Occasionally you get an odd Scotland or Wales class 170. I prefer these 2 over the London Midland ones though.

Stockport renamed "Scottport" for a day

What a waste of time, effort and money changing station signs for 'fun'. Avanti should try sticking to running a train service and having staff on platforms.
