    Class 444 Wi-Fi

Was working brilliantly Sunday evening, very quick and didn't drop out atall where my phone usually would.. And just got slower and slower as the week's gone on. I suppose it'll either settle down once the novelty wears off or they'll need to find some way of rationing it.

Delay repay due to barrier staff at East Croydon

It's strange, because the ticket is still valid to head up to Clapham, break the journey there, and then resume down the SWML after 7pm. So there's not a single train they could get from ECR on which the ticket is not valid. What's even wierder is now someone at the station printed off...

Delay repay due to barrier staff at East Croydon

I *think* this is a valid reason for delay repay, but just want to check before I advise a friend of mine to put this through. Ticket held: Super Offpeak Day Return Poole to Croydon Stations, Not Via London, with Two Together. At 4pm I'd texted her to say they couldn't return via Clapham till...

    Gold Card First Class Supplement

Doesn't seem to work on Southern, so might just be FGW only. It also seems a bit hit and miss as to whether it's offered - from Brockenhurst to Waterloo it's offered on the Off Peak Return but not the Super Off Peak. And I'm a little curious why there's the option of buying one or two of them...

    DB London Spezial

Throwing this out there incase anyone knows... I've got 2 and a bit hours as my connection in Brussels. I know on a eurostar ticket a ticket to Brussels also gets free travel between Midi & Nord on the day, but can I do the same on a Spezial ticket? I plan to head to Central and have a wander...

    Brockenhurst station footbridge

I thought the kink was because the staircases are quite a bit longer than the old ones, and with the down car park one facing a different direction like before everything's had to shift over a bit to get it all to fit in. Talking of the stairs they don't seem to be all that level, they seem...

    Brockenhurst station footbridge

The new bridge opened on Friday. It's quite an improvement on the old one, much more space in the walkway and the stairs. Being quite modern though it feels quite out of place!

    Portsmouth to Ryde ticket

I beleive they're only supposed to be used for rail/sea journeys, so unless you've got another ticket to get you to Harbour then a discounted Harbour to Ryde ticket on it's own is probably not valid. If you do want to buy one they are available online, and last time I had time to waste at...

    Gold Card First Class Supplement

I've bought two so far, both from SWT. First time round I bought it with the discounted ticket and it was printed with OUT, second time round from another station I picked up the discounted tickets from the TVM and bought the supplement seperately, can't remember what was written or not but...

    Stupid passengers

There was one I saw a few months ago heading back from London on a Sunday evening during the Southampton blockade. Young lady gets on at Woking in tears, and speaks to the driver as she's boarding at the front of the train. She was on a train heading to London, is trying to get to Lymington...

    Cycling disused lines?

Castleman's Corkscrew is nearby, and I've regularly cycled the Brockenhurst to Burley part, and recently did Wimborne to Hamworthy. I plan to do Ringwood to West Moors some day but from here it's not an appealing circular route so might have to drive to a start point. Also done Hurn to...

    Yeovil Stations.

There's about 3 journeys a day where that is actually the quickest at 2hr57 to 3hr10. Going via Southampton->Salisbury is only 3hr20, and runs every hour.

    DB London Spezial

Aswell as booking early if you haven't got a simple journey then I think you have to be quite careful with the stopover times to get on trains which still have quota available, not just on the Eurostar leg but also on the journeys within Germany. The route I've booked is...

    DB London Spezial

Just a quick FYI incase anyone else gets caught out... When booking these don't select seat selections. I went through the whole process of paying only to find at the end a message right at the end to say, sorry seats sold out. I tried a couple of options of Eurostar and a few options of...

    Brockenhurst station footbridge

There's 3 sets of lift shafts built - both islands & the up side. The down side will have just stairs. Work is progressing a bit slowly, NR website was claiming February back when it started. The spans went in place a couple of months ago, the steps on the up island last month, and the steps...

My idea for restrictions to cycles on trains

Because they're not going to anywhere near that station and cycling much more than a few miles once they get off? Those few miles on the train could reduce a journey too far for them to cycle into something quite possible. I once got asked by the guard why I was after a ticket Brockenhurst to...

Any tips for rail in Paris?

As I found out when I though I'd quickly nip to La Defence from Etoile. The barriers didn't let me out so I just went downstairs and caught the next train back, fortunately no-one was around to notice as I beleive I was liable for a fine for trying that.

    Interrailing 2014

I'd agree with the above about timings - unless I'm going to a small town I usually plan on staying in each place for 3 nights. This gives me a whole day sightseeing in that place, time to add in a day/afternoon trip to somewhere interesting locally, and the travel days aren't too often...

Any tips for rail in Paris?

    1. Gare du Nord would be the most accessible main station, however you'll be coming in on the RER B so anywhere along that line would be equally accessible. 2. Given the above, there's no reason to stay near a main station. There are better areas to stay. I've stayed near Anvers at the bottom...

Waterloo - Bournemouth - Wareham with a PRIV

Not listed as a valid connection, but one I've made several times, is the xx27 to Exeter from Clapham Junction to Basingstoke, arriving at xx06, and then the XC service to Bournemouth at xx10. Arrives in Bournemouth at xx12, 10 minutes earlier than the usual option of changing at Woking to pick...
