There's about 3 journeys a day where that is actually the quickest at 2hr57 to 3hr10. Going via Southampton->Salisbury is only 3hr20, and runs every hour.

As I found out when I though I'd quickly nip to La Defence from Etoile. The barriers didn't let me out so I just went downstairs and caught the next train back, fortunately no-one was around to notice as I beleive I was liable for a fine for trying that.
