Day Ranger Ticket not working at ticket barriers

Namely, the Southern one that starts at 10;00 . I got one yesterday, just to have a day out in the sun in Sussex. Why didn't it operate the barrier? I explained to mesen that as I was trying to get through the barrier BEFORE 10am to catch a train that left at 10:06----- That is why the...

    Another ECML dewirement 23/07/19

When I was a lad, I seem to remember that one metre length of steel will expand by 0.0012mm per degree of heat rise. The people building the stuff got their sums right on the other track. That still looks OK. This IS a small amount, I agree, HOWEVER, If you consider 1000m of steel wire...

Shortest Gap With Mainline Departures to the Same Place

I might have to add a caveat. Trains outbound from the London end will see what happens. I can see that suburban stuff near to London will cause me yedaches. I am not on the same wavelength as you lot.....

Trivia: Biggest difference in frequency on a Sunday compared to weekdays and Saturdays

Bryn to Wigan NW/ Liverpool. Half hour in the week. No service on Sundays. I think that this is cas of some sort of mashup between MPTE and GMPTE. Bryn hasn't had a Sunday service since I arrived there in 1978. Dunno if it had one before.

Shortest Gap With Mainline Departures to the Same Place

That'll explain that! Cheers! When I was a lad, Padd - TM always went through Bath. Unless they was digging the tracks up. Still, my question is a valid one. Two trains from one terminus to the same station, five minutes apart? Quality!

Shortest Gap With Mainline Departures to the Same Place

Namely, 1C27 Padd- Bristol TM and 1U28 Padd- Bristol TM. These are timed at Swindon tonight at 20:00 / 20;05 I had a nosy at IRIS earlier today. I think that I spotted this. Am I going insane? Dunno. Maybe one of them is supposed to go further than TM. Probably not! I might be there already...

Experiences of journeys on Class 800 / Class 802 'IET' trains

Moderator note: split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/class-800-performance-reliability.185334/ They are appalling. It doesn't matter which way you look at it. The seats are hard. The buffets don't exist. The diesel bits heat up and can't cool down. The panto bits wreck wires. I...

Wagon hits bridge in the Wigan area.

Near to where I live, there is a bridge that used to get hit a few times. I think the last but one hit was a Weetabix wagon. There were bix's all over the place! I did get stuck behind another hit a bit later, dunno what that was. I went on the unofficial "detour" to avoid the queue..

No worries! I thought that I had missed a trip!

    GWR HST Farewell Railtour Timings

I don't want to pick nits Peter. Has anyone got a vid of the Bananer going through Reading heading to Plymouth? I have one on the train. I would like to see a vid station side! Blow reading to bits! Failing that. How can I upload vid stuff? My vids are too large to upload....

    GWR HST Farewell Railtour Timings

Cheers Peter! It did cost a bit. £148 for a day out is quite a lot. I did get to places that I haven't been. Hereford, Carmarthen and Plymouth. Roughing it in Plymouth was interesting! The iet's home on the Sunday didn't amount to much. EVEN if the ride was FOC!

    GWR HST Farewell Railtour Timings

One of them was misbehaving, probably due to being slowed down after Oxford. Blasting from Gloucester to Padd and then onwards West seemed to clear the pipes a bit. I had just enough time to have a smoke at Carmarthen. I wasn't going to bother with the last bit of the tour. I am glad that I did...

    GWR HST Farewell Railtour Timings

One of the last Kronics to be bought on a GWR HST. About half 8 on the Bananer! Very nice it was too! Slightly more expensive than the 66p ones I am supping tonight. Heyho! If GWR decide to run another charidee speshul, please let me know!

GWR Shortage of Traincrew Weekend and During Week

In my job, I can be out all day, then out all night as well. This isn't a problem as, I've been doing it for years. They do pay overtime where I am at the mo. This did cause problems at timesheet time. The high ups don't like to see 27 hours nonstop on a timesheet. I was working 300 miles away...

    GWR Class 800

If the electricity supply fails, as it did on Saturday, are they still filled with diseasel, just so they can carry on regardless with their journey?

    GWR Class 800

Hmm. Would you care to enlighten us? The seats are grim. No buffet on them. Why else would you use them? Unless, you have to use them to get to work. If you do, you have my sympathies! I will not be going for any meal n pub mashups on the iep's! I had the "joy" of a free ride earlier this...

    Split Tickets..

Last year, I bought a car in Newcastle. Nothing strange there. What is slightly strange is I live in Swindon. Trainfare to collect me car is going to cost a lot. Especially as I bought the car midweek and booked the ticket for the next Saturday online on me phone. I am not good at online...

    GWR Class 800

The new trains are bad. Everyone I have spoken to is of the same opinion. I've been for a few days out this year. Saying goodbye to the HST's as only I can. Jump on a HST to Bristol/Swansea/Stroud/London. I was even on the Last Service HST AND the Bananer. All trips involved HST haulage, a...
