Reston station reopening project gathers steam

Will be interesting to see what services will support this. It was originally planned to be opened alongside East Linton and I assume that’s still the plan.

Highland Main Line - Budget Deal Bribe

Pitlochry as outer commuter belt of Edinburgh...Interesting thought.

Scotland's Railway - Potential Enhancement Options

Alloa/Dunfermline to Grangemouth shuttle? Parry people mover Grahamstoun to Grangemouth shuttle? It's really hard to see a viable service ( existing or new ) that would fit all the constraints.

Is spending on increasing railway safety good value or should it be stopped?

Railway is lower risk than Road transport but the impact can be a lot higher. It’s all a balance but a bad rail accident can kill/injure many tens or even hundreds of people. Road accidents on that scale are high unlikely though more people die per mile travelled.

    Station Usage 2018/19

A good set of figures given the train/crew shortage issues in the early part of 2019. Again, outside peak hours, the train often uses ungated platforms at Waverley which encourages people not to pre-purchase tickets.

    Trains in an independent Scotland?

I think the handover of the railway infrastructure would be a fundamental part of the independence settlement.

    Exactly right.

    Powderhall branch to close

Seems a sensible use of the line. I Assume that ownership of the solum will transfer from Network Rail to Edinburgh Council and sufficient will be retained to allow for any re-opening of the Abbeyhill loop or stabling requirements?

Scotland's Railway - Potential Enhancement Options

I can’t see a fife crossrail being viable. Currently there is one service from fife to Glasgow and back per day which will be quicker via winchburgh than snaking along the Forth.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

I read somewhere that turning services back at Gorebridge would be an issue.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

It is very Edinburgh focussed both for commuter and leisure.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

Given the over projection of Midlothian passenger numbers a railhead at Gorebridge may well have been a pretty bad decision. I think Midlothian passengers will significantly increase over the next decade as more housing, particularly Shawfair, is built and the roads in and around Edinburgh get...

    BRSA Clubs

Spent many a Saturday afternoon drinking and playing pool at Hardengreen Railway Club. Long gone and replaced with housing but at least the railway returned.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

i think it has provided benefits throughout the line in both Midlothian and the Borders but whether they are enough to justify the cost depends on your perspective and lens. Now it’s built I doubt that it’s the biggest loss maker in the ScotRail area.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

That’s why I included political considerations.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

Hawick seems feasible as it would deliver regeneration and political benefits. Carlisle still seems pie in the sky.
