But if it was in the front, is there significant sound proofing in the cab to drown out this noise? anyhow, I'm sure if it was in the front carriage the guard would have the sense to keep the noise down.

Would this be a distraction for the train driver? Surely he would be able to hear the noise? (If they are in the front carriage)

But 50 years down the line, if train companies always hire qualified drivers, they will eventually run out. So it is in the toc's interest to train someone at 25 and get 40 years out of them. Plus, a toc can train someone from scratch to their standards.

It says in the contract we get paid in 4 weekly arrears, does that mean we get paid monthly? and that we will have to be working for 2 months before our first pay check? Or will we be paid at the end of the first month (after the first 4 weeks?)

There seemed to me that there was plenty of parking at reading depot. nice security guard on the gate, wishing me luck with my interview, then saying hope to see you in the future when I left.

Is there no security gate to get through from the platform then? from google maps it looks like you would have to cross the tracks further up in the depot to get across to the training centre?

sorry, should have made myself more clear, point of view as an employee. (a trainee to be more precise, getting to the classroom area from the main station) also, as a driver if you finish your early shift at reading station and you need to get back to the depot where your car is parked.

If anybody that works at the FGW Depot in Reading could just answer this question I would appreciate it. If you get the train to work and get off at Reading station, how do you get to the actual depot? Do you have to leave the station and find your way there or is there a way of getting there...

From my experience no, I would say a more realistic date for FGW is around February time. I applied in July and found out in September. My contract arrived, wahoo!!
