I was on the 0852 from Edinburgh this morning and there was single line working for a short section between Penrith & Oxenholme, presumably around where the derailment was the other week. Got a bit of a fright when I looked out the window and we were heading up on the down line very slowly...
There is one TM who I've come across a few times that seems to go to town with announcements. On a few occasions after leaving Haymarket they are still rambling away as the train is going over the level crossing at Kirknewton.
Maybe just my opinion but for announcements to sink in with people...
Apologies for bringing Booth up again l, however there are livestream clips floating around Facebook this morning of child protection hunter (same one as has been in the news this week regarding schools in the west of Scotland) making the drive to Altnabraec to confront Booth. He’s saying on...
Preston is a million times better for RRB than a station where the road is on a hill at either side and turning a coach is a challenge.
RRBs to go along the Windermere line maybe but multiple coaches for Avanti and TPE is asking for trouble at Oxenholme.
Preston may not be ideal but...
Having experienced Oxenholme when buses had to be called in unexpectedly to shift an 11 car pendolino worth of passengers it is most definitely not well suited for RRB operations of that scale.
I must be imagining it. I could have sworn that Rail Gourmet or whatever they are called now loaded the southbound carts on the northbound services at waverley
Are they loading catering in Aberdeen? Assuming you returned on the same day that should be the same set. I always thought that the Aberdeen and Inverness services were catered from Waverley.
Or are they not allowed to start using the food loaded for the next journey in the event of running out.
Correct they neither own nor run the service but they provide the cash.
Citylinks behaviour is why the OP encountered such a high walk on fare. If the Scottish Government didn't base the payment to the operator in the way they do it is probably highly likely the walk on fare would be more...
IMO your taxes are paying for those that pay nothing which is fair enough as they are entitled to the pass, however Citylink are inflating the fare deliberately to ensure they get even more of your taxes.
The fact the Scottish Government are allowing it to happen is where the failure is.
There is also currently plenty of rumbling in Dunbar at the moment regarding commuter services into Edinburgh with proposed gaps similar to Durham/Newcastle
Just a thought but would relocating the ticket office out into one of the retail units in the cancer yard and moving the upended retailer, Burger King and whatever is along that wall in front of the platforms into the existing ticket office help? Would probably require a few banks of TVMs on...
Yeah there have been a few short forms in recent weeks that have made the local newspaper with instances of people being left at Prestonpans so not a hope of get on or off at Wallyford and Musselburgh.
Complaints about the 0753 off North Berwick are common but they have intensified over...
Pretty sure this service ran pre-covid. There was definitely a Prestonpans starter back then due to the chronic overcrowding on the North Berwick service that was usually at the back of it.
The Blindwells development has increased usage but there has been overcrowding issues forever there...
Just had the email of doom telling me my train is cancelled tomorrow.
It's running as far as Preston but a quick glance at the website shows two of the three Southbound departures tomorrow between 0900 and 1030have been canned. I think I'll just wait in Edinburgh and get the next one as...
Wednesday and Thursday were the only days last week that the 0652 managed to do the full journey. It either started or terminated at Preston Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I'm on it on Thursday and can't say I'm looking forward to it at the moment.
