That sounds about right! The on-board displays say "Newport (South Wales)" which is also unnecessary given TFW don't serve Essex, and contradicts what Elin is saying! They haven't used the G word on tickets since privatisation, which of course is roughly the same time as the short-lived "Gwent"...

Completely agree. Also, the new on-board TFW announcements now say "Newport Gwent" (sic), which has never been the name of the station and no other TOC does. Why have they added this?

What is "the South Wales Metro"? Some discontinuous electrification and new rolling stock? Yes, absolutely. There was plan for proper electrification and cascaded Class 319s before all the so-called "core valley lines" was ever dreamt up.

The plans showed two entrances: one from the Maesglas West roundabout on the A48 and one from Lighthouse Road. The A48 entrance would be for buses only.

It's pretty bog-standard Series 1 like everything else west of Airport Jn.

So what? The taxpayer no more owns something that is UKG's and NR's responsibility than it does something that is TfW or the Welsh Government's responsibility. Your initial argument appears no more than an appeal to emotion.

The taxpayer doesn't "own" something run by the Welsh Government anymore that it "owns" something run by the UK Government.

Then Ebbw <-> Cardiff will run on the relief lines. They are supposed to be having the line speed increased as part of this plan.

London Gateway/Felixstowe -> Wentloog? With the obvious caveat of either end not being electrified.

I don't know why that would be, given that all platforms are bidirectionally signalled. There are sufficient crossovers west of the tunnel and east of the Usk bridge to signal any line onto any platform. I've even seen 387s running on the relief lines and IETs over Bishton flyover.
