One last attempt. Can no one offer me an alternative to the Class 68 loco to run on the Birmingham to Marylebone line? Surely this can't be the only diesel train available which can make this run?
Not of great interest to us, but I think you are right. So none of you can give us any hope until the line is electrified, by which time we will all be dead from a mixture of particulates and aggravation??
Thanks. I appreciate that fact. The noise is the major problem, and that's a really major problem for us. I actually think local families with rather have some extra NOx. Believe it or not, it's that bad!!
Thanks hwl. The choice of a mixed traffic loco for use solely as a passenger train serving inner London was, in our view, a mistake. Other engines are used on that route to pull / push the silver trains. The Class 67 with a DVT was in use when I moved in. Infinately quieter. Were these no longer...
No, I didn't. But I was aware of the DMUs when I bought my flat, which is close to the station. That was 5 years ago. Since then there are many more train movements AND, worst of all, the introduction of the reverberating, low resonance noise of the 68s. It is having a profound effect on nearby...
OK Cards on table. As you gather I'm not a rail person. I live near Marylebone Station and we suffer prolonged idling by Class 68 diesel locos. This sound is very attractive to rail connoissours like yourselves, but not to the residents. I was looking for a solution in the longer term. I am...
From Wikipedia:-
If these trains were to run as diesel locos and never ran on electrified lines, would it be possible to draw the power for them to operate for shortish periods purely from regenerative braking and shore supply?
I ask this as I would like to see them used in diesel mode on the...
From my flat overlooking Marylebone Station I see the drivers walking the length of the Class 68 to turn the engine off on arrival. Why do they do that if it can be turned off from the DVT? Do they need the exercise?
