Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Well know nothing about this like other than what is on the Wikipedia site. I must admit most of the UK is unexplored territory to me as I like my foreign travel. Well if you can find an argument for it that's great. However its not a similar to Whitby York as in that case most of the track...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Not quite on topic here but I have been struck that the museum tramway at Beamish has been operating now for longer than many of the tramways in the Tyneside area ans there is a growing list of tramcars and I presume locos that have worked longer in preservation than before it.

If you could replace all of Northern's stock with a single type of DMU...?

Thanks for the thoughts. If your company were to be awarded a fifteen year franchise for a merged Northern/TPE operation from 2015 along with the ambitious targets of doubling passenger numbers and completely replacing the fleet within the fifteen year period what would you do? There would be...

If you could replace all of Northern's stock with a single type of DMU...?

If you were to do this would it bring about much in the way of economies of scale or do they need all those different types of unit? Additionally by how much would you expand their fleet to relieve overcrowding and cope with growth? I would assume better less crowded trains would bring...

If you could replace all of Northern's stock with a single type of DMU...?

If you had to replace everything operated by Northern except the electric units with a single type of DMU what would you use.?

    HS2 Northern Branches Discussion

Not sure if this ex station would be long enough. It might be less problematic to rebuild Exchange and combine it with Victoria. By the time work would start the arena might be also in need of a rebuild.

Indeed here in Tyneside a large tourist development was canceled I believe because someone needed to walk their dog on the field.

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

I am not proposing to reopen the line. I am talking of how that might be achieved if it were to happen and what the benefits might be. A bus is not a train in the same way that being pushed along in a handcart is not a taxi. For me the money would be far better spent in the Newcastle area on...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

No really sure if the NYMR would object to a connection at the south end of the railway. It would make it a lot easier to access from the south. Don't know figures but the fact that there are only four or five trains each day each way on the Esk Valley line and none on Sundays dosent really...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Just to point out again I am not proposing to build it or that some one else builds it or even that it is the best ever scheme. I am just discussing how it might work if it were. Whitby does have a rail service although IIRC the first train doesn't arrive in Borough until after ten making...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

There have always been financial strictures.I am amazed you seem find them something new. If there was unlimited cake then there would never be a problem and no need for lobbying. I know a few people who work in the lobbying industry and I am sure they would be amazed to hear the have no...

    Ordsall Chord

I initially thought the new chord could just cross the museums tracks on the flat as as presumably locos are not visiting every fifteen minutes so things could be arranged so that they arrived and departed well outside of peak times. However earlier this year I stood at the end of the...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

I think all you have demonstrated is a negative outlook. If a link to Pickering were to be be built it would certainly improve linkage to areas such as York. and Leeds. That would be good for the area and the NYMR. It would certainly allow charters to be brought onto the NYMR far easier than...

I did wonder if European access legislation would apply to them particularly if it could be shown that there was a "public good" coming from a third party having access.

As a general principal I think heritage lines should attempt to incorporate other rail services if at all possible. I would not force them to but I wonder what the legal position is?

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Heritage lines far from being "preserved" are often more developed in the period of time since they were taken over by volunteers than they were for much of their working lives. Indeed as you say its a working railway not a model railway. We have already had an HST on a heritage line. Not sure...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

I don't think any of us thought you wore going to say that. Nice idea anyway. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Well whatever but I think the point remains that there is all sorts running about on it now that it would have have seen went it was part of the national network. ---...

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Wel for a start I don't think they are against it. However I don't think Merchant Navy locos and Class thirty ones in railfreight colours did a lot of work on the line prior to the 1960's.

Cities in need of an extra station.

I thought they were planning to re open Yaxley anyway. And to also build a large new housing estate close to it. I could have that wrong. I would have thought a parkway station in York to the south where the old ECML diverged would be a good idea as well.

Campaign for Malton-Pickering reopening to allow services to Whitby

Yes your correct but I will try to explain things to you one more time and you might just grasp it. Please try. There is a lot of potential with a link to the NYMR. I am not expecting them to pay for it. If capacity improvements have to be made to the NYMR and the NR lines than they...
