I am sure Grand central would take a few. I would also not rule out East Coast having some either. One or two will presumably go into preservation and I think there will be a few takers for the coaches. I would much rather have them than the Voyagers and maybe a deal to put them on XC could be...
I was under the impression that there will be 5 platforms when work is complete.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
CARDIFF:
Extra platform at Cardiff Central
Refurbished southern entrance at Cardiff Central
Two extra platforms at Queen Street
Extra bay...
While there is some space at Northumberland park for a platform it would be on quite a long section of single track, although some could be doubled, and would limit the service frequency.
Is there any reason the NR trains couldn't run into the Metro platforms? It would mean interchanging...
I am being pedantic but there is the staion on the North Tyneside steam railway.
I wonder if it woukd still be possible to Bring Chaters into Tynemouth Station if alterations were made top the platform barriers.
I wonder how easy it would be to have a "DMUs on the Metro" event on the...
Yes exactly. If the original route were taken as the basis for a revived line the deviations required would be so big, and arguably curvy as well, that it might just be more cost effective to buy back the original land and pull all the houses down. Or you could start again from scratch or you...
Hi There
I would make the following points.
Yes to duel voltage metro stock.
Yes to electrifying the Blyth and Tyne to Ashington and maybe even putting back the line into Blyth. However running along the Metro tracks via South Gosforth might make the service uncompetitive time wise. If you...
I dont want to labour the point but we have been having a lot of rain over the past few years and a lot of sodden structures might be subject to rapid drying if we have a scorching summer this year. Every viaduct is someones responsibility but that one between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen...
I wouldn't go into all the ifs, buts and maybes. I would just report it.
Its not our responsibility, its not our job to make decisions and think how you would feel later if it did fall down.
Best
John.
Is there any reason the DVTs on East Coast can't be converted for use by passengers? I assume there are good reasons or it would have already been done.
Sorry I wasn't really using sarcasm. I was just a little exasperated by what seems to be your trying to make a case against something that is just common sense. Bus services are always going to be cheaper to run than trains and there is always going to be the argument that its door to door by...
Just south of Dringhouses would seem an excellent place to me. If TPE services were to stop there it would cut the hassle of commuting to Leeds etc. If some XC and EC services were to stop there it might also relieve pressure on the central area of York. And the site is quite convenient for York...
The point of not having to change trains and maybe saving ten or fifteen minutes off your journey. As you get older that gets more important. Believe me on that. :D
As said I am not an expert on this but given that the are some north bound TPE services that terminate at York could their run be extended to Strensall?
Again as said above I assume extra services are going to have to be introduced rather than just stopping the existing TPE service.
John...
There I go with my thinking of the railways as an integrated whole rather than a mass of sectional interests. :)
I am just assuming that many of the people living in the north east of York will want to go to the south west to places like Leeds. Of course the TPE and Northern franchises might be...
I am not any kind of expert on the York Scarborough line but every time I have used it recently the train seem at near capacity. If three new stations are introduced with just the existing trains stopping then somethings going to give.
My solution would be to allow some of those TPE York...
