Some potentially good news for some of you.
Because of the threat of strike action on the Piccadilly Line because of a number of factors, one of which was a lack of drivers, the company is writing to every NT driver on the combine with over 12 months service and offering them full time roles on...
Several, especially from BTP.
London Underground is filled with ex-BTP.
Two of their Senior Operating Officers are ex-BTP CI’s who came straight across, and there are several CSA’s and Night Tube Drivers who are ex-BTP and Met Police.
I know people from BTP who’ve ended up on the mainline...

Slightly out of date, but the train operator recruitment page of this document explains project pool better than I can.
Always join a union, you’ve worked hard to get this job so protect it.
Join during training, if something goes wrong you want someone to turn to who can fight your corner or at least advise you properly.
I wouldn’t give up hope.
There is of course a natural progression of T/Ops to full time due to retirement/etc so vacancies will arise, and I have a feeling that due to that letter more train ops will be applying for other internal roles in the company which are not subject to the 18 month tie...
From my knowledge of the situation it essentially this:
NT drivers started kicking off that they were being tied in to 18 months after passing their summative assessment when other staff were getting full time T/Op roles in internal recruitment with less service.
LU starting making a load of...
Could have increased the benchmark due to the amount of internals who have gone for it this year as night tube is now the best way to go to full time T/Op so a lot more CSA’s have applied.
IIRC they don’t have to do the SJT so it would be an easy way to hold everyone but the very best whilst...
To be fair, the “drain” on training resources comes from the amount of NT T/Ops going full time which need to be replaced, and this has accelerated after the union dispute about NT on depot waiting lists being leapfrogged by Full Time trainees coming from the school now being mainly resolved (I...
I believe off the top of my head it’s about 32500.
You’ll clear about £1700-1750 after tax for each pay which is 4 weekly.
Any training after week 12 is paid retrospectively at full time drivers salary, backdated to week 12 when you pass out.
I.e. you’ll continue to get the normal training...
Quite the rant there.
I think you’ll find most LU staff are either safeguarded or non-safeguarded and take advantage of the 75% that TfL refund them on national rail.
Some non-safeguarded will be stupid enough to try and blag their way on their staff pass, just as some coppers do that aren’t...
I think you’re overthinking it slightly.
I don’t think anyone has ever got a job over someone else on the railway because they put martial arts in the hobbies section.
The only time it could really make a difference is for allowing you to add things that could be relevant to a role you’re...
They recruit occasionally - next advertisements are meant to be out in march apparently.
Follow the Night Tube T/Op thread in this sub forum and updates will probably go in there the moment the adverts out.
Join externally as a Night Tube T/Op and then get on the waiting list for full time (no further interviews or application required, literally just nominate what depot you want to go full time at and wait for a spot), or join as a CSA and then apply internally.
Those would be my 2 recommendations.
What about the possibility, albeit you'd have to be extremely unlucky, of you getting stopped by revenue en route, or one of the numerous BTP officers who pass through AH seeing you go through the barriers without tapping at west ken?
I'm not sure you missing your assessment because...
It’s at 2 different places as you go to 1 to fill out forms, get them signed, check your ID,
Etc then off to 2 for the medical.
No idea why you can’t do both at the same place like every other public sector employer but i find the LU has quite a lot of outdated and inefficient ways of doing...
It starts on a Friday as you’re external.
So basically on Friday you’ll have a Train Operator Course Specific Induction.
Monday AM you’ll have your TfL wide induction with other staff (CSA’s, maybe some compliance and back office staff)
Then Monday PM you’ll meet up with your full course...
Not quite... there was 5 months between my AC2 date and my training start date, and pretty much every other external on my course is a similar time frame for the whole process - it wasn't quick, but then no one on my course was in any sort of pool either so I suppose it could've been a lot...
