Ticket dispute regarding Horsforth to Leeds journey: your thoughts on the legalities?

Woefully off topic and no application to the OP but a policy is generally an internal document that has no part in the offer to provide services. Only the terms and conditions attached to the offer (or contract) have any bearing on the services provided.

The annual "Boxing Day Trains" row.

Meantime, some places not only have services on Boxing Day but also on Christmas Day. These places seem to have no problems with the arrangements and everything seems to work fine. Western Australia for instance. We can catch a train/bus/ferry on Christmas Day because the government has...

Ideally Qantas would like to have started these flights earlier to catch the Christmas traffic but the delivery times of the 787-9s are such that even starting in March 2018 will be difficult. The delivery dates of the aircraft are such that at best they may only have 3 787s in service by then...

Not heard that one (yet) but there are still lots of hurdles before the service can happen. The biggest issue is the building work needed and given the incredibly slow pace at which Perth Airport works generally happen, there could well be delays to the start up date. The state election in...

Depends who you listen to. Alan Joyce seems to think that based on Qantas' modelling, there should be no problems flying a full load from PER to LHR and back. Common sense suggests that at certain times of the year, prevailing winds will make it impossible to carry a full load even with the...

If you are talking about the Qantas 787-9s, you are ignoring the fact that half the cabin is devoted to business class and premium economy seating. That is very much premium :) As for 3+3+3 configuration down back, well that is anther reason why I will be avoiding Qantas at all costs. Give...

Airbus A340: Falling out of favour?

Doubtful. I think the South African A340s will still be in use for a fair while yet since plans to order replacement long haul aircraft have been put on hold/scrapped since so little of their long haul network makes money (thankfully Perth is one of those routes that does make money).

I agree with you. I think Alan Joyce is/has been smoking some funny tobacco if he seriously thinks that Perth offers a better gateway to Australia than any of Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Singapore (the main choices, let alone considering the merits of Hong Kong, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur). One...

Not really correct... There are only two military runways that are really capable of taking widebody aircraft in Western Australia. RAAF Base Learmonth is the primary alternate obviously as it is a regular RPT airport. RAAF Base Curtin (near Derby) could take widebodies but the facilities...

Indeed, it should be pointed out that this PER-LHR service IS a premium fare service due to the seat configuration that Qantas have chosen for their 787-9s. This effectively will put the flights out of the pocket of the semi-budget/family flyers, even before considering whether they would want...

Very technically, Qantas itself does not fly Brisbane - Auckland. It is flown by Jet Connect Pty Ltd on behalf of Qantas (its owner), based out of Auckland to take advantage of lower operating costs.

Air Asia (which includes all the various permutations of Air Asia, Air Asia X, Air Asia Zest, Indonesian AirAsia et al) is the biggest LCC carrier in Asia I believe. The reason why it is deferring orders is more to do with MASSIVE competition rather than slow growth. The overall market is...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

I am forever puzzled by this issue with "viable 2 car AC units" given that relatively comfortable, air conditioned 25kv AC EMUs run past my place at least 8 times an hour... how come something that is so easy to do in other countries is so hard to do in the United Kingdom? The again I still...

Why is the railway so pressed for capacity?

Doesn't it all boil down to: Accountant: we need 4 car trains to meet current demand TOC: we need 5 or 6 car trains to meet current and future demand DfT: you are getting 3 car trains

(AUS) New $2 billion train deal to create 1000 local jobs

I think that jobs number can be taken with a pinch of salt... I bet it comes nowhere near that number in reality - and they seem to be VERY expensive cheap Chinese trains :) At that price there is no reason why the trains cannot be 100% built in Australia...

irresponsible photographer at Newton Le Willows

You need to read things properly. I never suggested NR SHOULD ban all photography, I merely queried whether these sorts of incidents MIGHT be a catalyst for NR to consider such a ban.

irresponsible photographer at Newton Le Willows

In a broader sense, with this sort of idiocy seemingly becoming more commonplace as evidence by The Flying Scotsman trespass incidents, could these incidents be a catalyst for Network Rail/whoever to introduce a blanket ban of photography on Network Rail property?
