Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) Driver info needed please

Unfortunately I don't know much, if anything about them beyond that their pay is a lot lower than most UK TOCs and despite being a UK qualified driver, you're unlikely to be able to go across as a qualified as their rulebook will be different

    LNER or Grand Central

As a qualified driver? LNER without question. As a trainee? Whichever one will give you your key

Should Severn Tunnel Junction get extra calls?

Yep. Takes 5minutes to get to Parkway now. Even if it's been busy hasn't taken much longer than 10

Should Severn Tunnel Junction get extra calls?

In fairness, getting to Parkway off the M4/M32 isn't too onerous

NEW LNER Trainee/ Apprentice Drivers - Newcastle now being advertised 15/02/2020

Just to point out, especially as we have a 19 year old wanting to apply for this, just because it says apprenticeship doesn't mean it is. They're not looking for an apprentice in the usual sense, ie a youngish school leaver. They're looking for a traditional trainee driver, just badged...

NEW LNER Trainee/ Apprentice Drivers - Newcastle now being advertised 15/02/2020

Without knowing the area, could be one of a few things: Newcastle could be the largest depot by establishment. Larger depot means larger turnover. LNER depot is likely to have been formed of "Link 1" Newcastle Inter-City drivers way back when, who due to their age when they'd have made it in...

Did the random words in bold give anyone else a headache?

Grand Central - Trainee Train Drivers (Various)

But that isn't necessarily where they book on. For example, as a Bristol GWR driver I pick up trains from SPM depot, but I'm always taxied to or from there to Bristol Temple Meads. I'd imagine it's the same for GC. They'll book on at the station so that's where the travel time is measured from

Should Severn Tunnel Junction get extra calls?

I said somewhere up thread that this would be the best solution - it wouldn't be abstractive as it'll keep the cash within GWR and may be generative slightly. But as I also said upthread, the majority of the people who use the train to get to London within the STJ catchment area already do...

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

Any "failed" OA has a common denominator - Ian Yeowart. Hull Trains and Grand Central (East Coast) have both been very successful. Can't see either of them going anywhere any time soon.

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

Depends if the primary aim of the station would be to attract new passengers or reduce the numbers driving in to Newport city centre

    Eat & Drinking while driving

Can't count the number of times I've been on a bus and half way along the route the driver hops out for a smoke. Can't do that sort of thing on the railway!

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

I've commented on your comments in bold in the quote edited and answers below There ans.re a few things about this though: 1) I think the impression that has been given over the years is that the daytime services from London to Cardiff are marginal in their contribution to GWR's takings. They...

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

Ahh, cheers! I'd seen the bays and just assumed they were bays! I was looking for, at the least, some form of washroad

Where is the depot, out of interest? Can't locate it on Google maps!

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

Unless it's going to be/is being used for the viva-rail stock, TfW, and ATW before them, didn't use the Wrexham depot. Bidston line services came ECS from Chester and Shrewsbury

    CrossCountry Bristol?

Yes there is a small car park just for XC staff. But I don't know if all grades get a permit. They can only park in the XC marked bays and not in the rest of the carpark. 1613040314 It's about 20 spaces or so, right outside the Panel Box

Different Guard Depot, Route and Traction cards

I'll attempt a definitive GWR list when I'm on my laptop and not my phone!

Found it! The TfW branding gives the impression that the WG have a bigger hand in it than just endorsing it
