The removal of the radio system reminds me of the similar thing with the 175s which used to have headphone socets (don't know if these ever actually worked) but they were certinately never in use on the ATW routes after the moving about of them. Makes you wonder if this will be another case with...
Yes at one point a 3 car 170 was used to cover for a HST sets (I expect faliure of a power car or something). Used to be fun seeing those mixed livery sets come in. Not only did the new livery not last that long but the refurbished blue/yellow spots standard class seats and brown/cream first on...
I trust that Network Rail were sucessful with the engineering task ahead of them the last few weeks since the real time systems show VT services running on time into Euston. Though it looks like they are currently taking of the 'change for good' stuff on virgintrains.co.uk since you can't access...
I wonder what the driver must have been thinking at that point after it happening. Shock horror! How on earth did he survive it looked like it more or less went right on top of him, and they are not exactly light objects. Glad he did make a full recovery and hopefully he won't do anything like...
On the subject of air photos, Gatwich Airport train station is a great place for photographing take off aircrafts as well as trains. Last time I was down there saw a very nose up Virgin 747take off, but the weather was cloudy so to slow with my camera for that one ;)
I expect so, in the past when I have done a journey to Manchester from Heald Green, and go via the Airport on a non stopper, the Ive not had a problem. I think its valid because the trains are straight through from the Airport.
Thats a great way to describe terminus stations that don't let you loose onto the platform until 10 mins before departure. Had this experience at Blackpool during August holidays few years ago, the que for the Manchester bound 175 was long, and it was a rush to the train for best seats :-o ...
In terms of electrification of certain routes, some stations would need to be altered. The bridge at Loughborough isn't high enough for cables to pass underneath, and that 'big dark bridge' at Nottingham is a little dodgy.
Apparently they did but they renamed them in 2004 'The Royal Scot' and the 'Caledonian', but don't know what is the case at present.

Experienced the same, some old woman who was on a mobile phone i the quiet coach, and even said in her conversaton "Im in the quiet zone (looking at the stickers), so I shouldn't be using my phone" but the fact is you are so hang up! :x
Just reading that webpage it states "When this timetable is launched East Midlands Trains will continue to operate its popular named premier business train to London, ‘The Master Cutler’".
Might this mean the end of the Northbound train?
Yeah it looks to be that way with the Manchester and Liverpool services, since they make additional stops at Coventry and Watford so effectively one services being used for originally two south of Birmingham. Though it looks suprising that they have got the Glasgow ones pretty much non stop, but...
Im impressed they are managing to get so many through New Street considering this is such a busy station, surely there must be times where other stopping trains have to make way for them or someting like that. Having said that its great that VT are still getting passengers to Euston rather than...
True, there is nothing wrong with it if the people searching are within the rules. I was searched once at Blackpool tower, and wasn't really that bothered knowing it was like you say, taking proactive steps towards terrorism. But, if you are specifically 'targeted' (e.g. if you look like your up...
On that subject, I think they appear to have this unwelcoming approach (probrably for a good reason to stop random people walking in) but couldn't they just not let you in even if you had a genuine ticket because of this 'show your ticket to a camera' system, you wouldn't know if it was simply...
