I asked at my DMI if a lower scoring internal would have priority over a higher scoring external as I'd heard that. The response I got was "if you score higher than someone, internal or external, it makes no sense for us to take the lower scoring ahead of you, if you have a higher score, you are...
From whatvthw driver learning managers said to us during traction it definitely sounds like there's plans for quite a few trainee groups to start by years end. Obviously there's a lot of things that can affect this though.
I'm a trainee driver gwr. Get what you're saying and I'm sure I covered the 'fit physically and mentally' to sign on for duty in a different interview question at DMI
Other than the standard type of questions that mirror the mmi, the additional questions I can remember are: you're travelling to work, are first and only person at the scene of an accident. What would you do? I said.. obviously I'd help (only one there so would be a bit tight not to) and at the...
My group started last Feb, some of us are only just doing traction now having been home learning for 40+ weeks. Others in my course won't return until June and July. Still limited to 4 max per group (opposed to the 12 per group it was). Until they can have larger groups I can't see there being...
I asked at my dmi if it was the case that a lower scoring internal would be ahead of a higher scoring external and was told "why would we take the lower scoring first? If you're the higher scorer you're top" perhaps an internal with an equal score to an external would have priority but otherwise...
Sorry to read this, I hope the gutted feeling doesn't stay with you too long. Stigys words and advice (as is normally the case) is spot on. Keep your head up and I'm sure next time you're in the process you'll get there. Not very good you had to email to find out bad news but I know they are...
Exactly right. Excuse the euphemism but... if you're trying to get to London but the only train available is to Woking it's better to get on that and be most of the way there than sat in Pompey having gone nowhere! I've always been told that TOCS prefer to recruit/promote from within where...
I wouldn't worry mate. I became a guard from outside the railway at 37, expected to wait 5-10 years to become a driver but became a trainee driver at 39. There's no reason (if it's depot to driver to start) you won't be mainline at 42/3 years old with 20+ years in one of the best offices there is
I'd expect to have the whole process again if a depot driver moving tocs from us as I assume they don't get a European drivers licence for the depot!? Might be wrong!
I used to travel to Basingstoke for my guards course with an ex SWT/R trainee driver who'd come from depot/shunter with them...
I'm almost 100% sure that one of the courses that was coming to the end of the full rules course when I started was all depot drivers so I wouldn't think you'd be a trainee again to go mainline or at least not need to resit rules. I know depot drivers at SWR have to start at the very beginning...
Generally (non covid times) driver trainee groups are a max of 12. When i finished rules we were 4 a class due to social distancing.
You might have 2 or 3 groups start around the same time. Some trained at Bristol, others in the west or Reading
