1999 proposal by Railtrack to use the GWSR as a diversionary route

There were numerous projects that Railtrack looked into before its demise, for instance the electrification of the Redhill to Reading line and the Marshlink Line.

    West Somerset Railway

If they made it a through connection to Taunton then im sure maybe a few people might consider it. Sadly not going to happen with the current management situation WSR have got themselves into (last i heard at least), the whole psshhazz of finding space to fit train between North Fitzwarren, and...

    Closed Railway Lines

Cowes to Sandown via Newport on the Isle of Wight is a good one

    Sheringham platform replacement

Why not do a Swanage Railway and let the NNR run all trains between Holt and Cromer during the summer months? I dont know the area well (only visited when i was little) but wouldnt it allow a higher frequency on the Bittern Line with a quicker turnaround at Cromer?

New stations on existing heritage railway lines that could be built and reopened.

I seem to remember that they didnt reopen West Hoathley because of some NIMBY's in the village. Thing is, its one of the more potentially convenient stations on the route, being situated below the village (on exit of tunnel) rather than at the end of a 2 mile lane (Horsted Keynes) Or nowhere in...

My Main Line is Better than Yours

Yeah! the VEP's were the absolute best when i was a little kid!! Battered, dirty, noisy and bounced all over the place! Haha

My Main Line is Better than Yours

Only if you live east of Ashford ;)

My Main Line is Better than Yours

My Main Line is the Ashford to Swanley via Maidstone line. Kinda main line ish. More trunk commuter route than anything else. Relatively short walk from my house (30 minutes) Uh... fairly decent service to London, not so great the other way. Most stations have managed to retain original...

Potential New Central Pennine Rail Line (Colne-Skipton)

OK i'll have a go ;) Well Oxford to Bicester Village was around £320M for around 15miles completely rebuilt to modern standards without electrification. Colne to Rose Grove is around 10miles but has more infastructure. So i would hazard a guess of around £300M without electrification. With...

Potential New Central Pennine Rail Line (Colne-Skipton)

Im not making any claims that i understand economics, but i was meaning in comparison to other projects such as Crossrail, HS2 and GWML Electrification As has already been said, realistically you want to upgrade Colne to Blackburn first before you start building any new railway.

Potential New Central Pennine Rail Line (Colne-Skipton)

Having looked on Google Satellite the route is relatively intact. Sure there are a few bridges in need of reinstating but in the grand scheme of things wouldn't be too difficult to fix. I think the only real nuisance is the A6068 in Colne.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! That sounds like it was fun! I must say, this thread is making for an interesting read and im not actually up to date yet.... I personally am niether here nor there. If they got the whole project one then i would consider it worthwhile. London Euston to to...

    385 delivered to.... Ashford

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U13345/2019/01/20/advanced Found this on RTT. Is the beginning of the move to Scotland?

[Trivia] Lines with the MOST fare evasion

I know what you mean ;) If it hasn't been mentioned already, I would definitely say The Island Line as a high contender for the list. No ticket barriers and Guards obviously have a hard time manoeuvring around the 1938 stock

    385 delivered to.... Ashford

I personally dont see why everyone hates them. They look more visually appealing than say, one of the new Greater Anglia Stadler FLIRT Units

    385 delivered to.... Ashford

Haha I did the exact same thing this morning. Pity I didn't get my phone out in time. Does anyone know the exact time/date/RTT working when they go up to Scotland?

    Where next to four track?

(shrugs) More capacity? Either that or segregation of services so less conflicting paths?

Your suggestions for the next Southeastern franchise

Agreed It would make far more sense (even if it is more expensive) to allieviate the curves on the Hastings Line and streamline services north of Sevenoaks (i believe the latter is already part of the plan). That being said, the Marshlink line is in dire need of investment, so why not redouble...

    Where next to four track?

Not entirely sure if its feasible but Dartford to to Gravesend would be handy, especially with the future Crossrail exstension proposed Perhaps even harder to achieve, but would be of use, Strood to Rainham to give Thameslink services a bit more space

Re-opening/building new stations on existing lines

I think they missed a great opportunity with electrifying the GWML, but how about Wantage Parkway?
