Drivers leaving buses unattended with passengers onboard.

I remember one NX journey I went on which involved a stopover in Birmingham. The driver told us we had the option of getting off the coach and then waiting to reboard or staying on the coach but with the doors closed for the duration of the driver's break. At the same time I remember other...

Drivers leaving buses unattended with passengers onboard.

I once experienced this on a First Potteries bus. I had boarded a 3 (now 103) in Haslington and informed the driver I was traveling onto Stoke Railway Station. The driver then told me to remain on the bus when we reached Hanley Bus Station as the vehicle would be going on to work a 25 towards...

Bus routes operated on behalf of another bus operator.

In Autumn 2022, the now withdrawn Primrose Coaches school bus service 435 (which went from the Brislington area to Broadlands Academy in Keynsham) had a brief spell of being covered by Eagle Coaches.

    Westward travel

Their services from Yate to KLB School were a regular sighting for me for many years up until I moved out the area. Remember the routes having a mixture of coaches and buses on them including at times...VRs and also remember ABUS occasionally providing a vehicle. Seem to recall Westward Travel...

Rail Replacement Bus/Coach - advance information

When South Gloucestershire Bus and Coach did rail replacement work, there was at least one instance where a coach should have been used but a bus ended up subbing last minute due to a problem. Think there was an incident involving an NX coach breaking down and SGBC having to take a coach off of...

Sitting in the front seat on Flixbus and National Express coaches when the driver has told you not to

Last NX journey I went on (the 100 service from Bristol to Birmingham) I had paid to reserve a front seat and boarded to find the driver's bags on the seats. The driver did move them but subsequently claimed he was going to put me in Seats 2A/2B before another passenger sat themselves there...

    Flixbus Discussion

The only seats drivers do seem to get sniffy about if you aren't booked to sit there is the front seats. Several times I've been on services where they've been empty but been instructed not to sit there. Some drivers are more flexible about it than others though.

    Buses to amusement parks

Following on from my previous thread about buses to National Trust Properties and the thread about buses serving prisons, I thought it would be interesting to discuss public transport routes past and present that have served amusement parks. Thinking particularly in terms of the main ones like...

Buses that serve National Trust properties

Thanks to those who have responded and provided this interesting information.

Buses that serve National Trust properties

I'd be interested to find out which of the various National Trust properties are accessible by bus? Tyntesfield House in North Somerset (where I work) is served by X6 between Bristol and Clevedon from the main entrance and X9 between Bristol and Nailsea from the bottom entrance whilst Prior...

Trivia: Buses that serve out of town prisons

Big Lemon Bus run a service from Bristol Parkway Station to HMP Ashfield in Pucklechurch. Similarly, services 525 (Yate to Emersons Green)and 532 (Pucklechurch to Longwell Green) both pass near to the prison.

    D&G Buses

I'm guessing if there was a Franchising system in place then the council/authority would determine the routes and the level of service and so for routes such as Crewe to Nantwich the services would be more evenly spaced out on a common frequency rather than two operators bunched together?

    Flixbus Discussion

I've tended to find NX drivers always honour seat reservations whereas with Flixbus its hit and miss with some drivers telling you to sit in the seat shown on your ticket and others telling you to sit anywhere. The back seat is one of my preferred seat choices so welcome the option to reserve...

Service X4 (Bristol to Portishead) stops within close proximity to Gordano Services.

Trivia : Historical National Express operators and depots

Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not. I am aware that during the 90s Wessex were the main provider of NX services out of Bristol but by the early 00s Turners Coachways also seemed to be involved in providing services I have had it suggested to me before that Turners were a...

    National Express Coaches Discussion

I remember they used to have a 'Boarding Pass' system at Cardiff Bus Station where you had to check in for your coach at the ticket office and were given a boarding pass. Admittedly a few times I used the 509 for local trips between Cardiff and Newport (simply because I was a fan of the...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I regularly had issues with Avon Riders when I used to purchase them back in 2012/2013. More than once I purchased one on a Wessex bus in Yate and then subsequently boarded a First bus in Bristol where the driver refused it. Most of the issues seemed to stem from the ticket displaying the...

Behaviour of bus enthusiasts at bus events recently.

A bit off topic I know but when traveling to/from an event as part of an organised trip what is the best etiquette/behaviour in terms of seating? Have unintentionally caused trouble on a few trips I've been on by wanting to swap seats on the return journey. Either because I didn't get my...

Trivia: large diversions etc. compared to the thing they are diverting around

That would have been quite a trip. A case of "I've been three hours on this bus and I only wanted to go to Tesco"!

Trivia: large diversions etc. compared to the thing they are diverting around

I remember being on the old X14 Bristol to Newport route on an occasion where the old Severn Bridge was shut so we had to divert via the M5 to the new one and then once across, divert back to Thornwell/Chepstow. Was back in early 2008 so quite a few years ago but remember my younger self...
