Yeah the limit goes down to 100 just west of the Box Tunnel, however unless an HST for whatever reason doesn't stop at Chippenham (passing through at over 100mph) trains wouldn't go over 100 between Chippenham and Box.
Yeah, the simpsons is deffo nowhere near as good as it used to be, however the bar has been raised in the most recent season (23), especially Holidays of Future Passed which I believe is probably the best episode I have seen in at least 9 years.

It seems that the 12 Car EMU's to be built for Thameslink would take up more power than 12 Car 375's.
Anyway, I was sure that most of the stations south of Tunbridge Wells did not have 12 car platforms. St Leonards certainly doesn't.
Some Northern Rail trains from the Tyne Valley also use the High Level Bridge on the way into Newcastle often, especially if they are continuing on s/b on the ecml (to Middlesborough or someplace)
Yes, running non stop between London and Ashford seems like bad idea, especially due to the high passenger numbers at some of these stations.

Whilst I do not know how much (if any) of the trackbed got built directly on the canal route, the disused Hallatrow-Limpley Stoke line in Somerset
(which conected the Bristol & North Somerset and Wessex Main Lines) followed the disused sections of the Somerset Coal Canal for much of its route...
