    Go sober for October

It's very easy to give up alcohol at the moment. I'm on walkabout in Switzerland and popped into a pub in Geneva at lunchtime, where thank goodness, I read the menu before ordering. At 18 euro a litre I left a lot faster than I entered! Now where is that water fountain?!

Crossing incident - How could it happen?

Thanks for the understanding BucksBones. Perhaps Bigfoot was just having a bad day. :)

    Ryanair fiasco

I've flown with them twice on long haul and could not fault them. From online booking to delivery of the end product, we had no issues at all. The flights were both on time and the on board service excellent from happy, professional crew.

    Questions regarding visit to Lisbon

To be honest, if you book online in advance you don't actually need a ticket; paper or electronic. Part of the booking process asks for your name to be entered. When the conductor comes to your seat you simply give your name. Easy peasy!

    Tube drivers strike 05/10

I think I am missing something here Val3ntine so help me out. I have read your question on post #26 a couple of times now. The same for Dstock7080's answer and have also opened and read through the link that they pasted with ASLEF's statement. Nowhere there can I see ASLEF making any...

Crossing incident - How could it happen?

Thanks everyone for the explanation same the link to the previous discussion. I'll check that out next. For sure, if I had been a passenger on that bus, I would first have made a dash for the door and then gone home for a change of pants. I would hope that the train driver was not the only...

Crossing incident - How could it happen?

I am not a railwaymen... Yet! So forgive the lack of understanding here. I was having a trawl through YouTube for something, when I came across a video depicting incidents at level crossings. One in particular caught my eye, as I don't understand how it could have happened. A little detective...

    Questions regarding visit to Lisbon

I think either you or your uncle are getting confused here Gordon. Burro is donkey in Spanish and Portuguese. Butter is mantequilla in Spanish and manteiga in Portuguese. BUT go to Italy and you can quite happily ask kfor some burro to spread on your bread!

    Questions regarding visit to Lisbon

A message of thanks to MarkVD for some interesting ideas. Obrigadissimo! Just to add to the excellent advice by Marc and Redonian: If you take Marc up on his idea of a car rental, do include the charming medieval town of Obidos about 85 kms to the north. If you like pastries, you...

    Ryanair fiasco

Thanks for the interesting input everyone. Looking at ABTA's website and their definition of a Package Holiday, I think that what Ryanair do is outside the scope of the regs unless you book one of their holidays.

    Questions regarding visit to Lisbon

Hello John You seem to have most answers there but here is my two cents worth : 1. Porto is definitely doable in a day. CP run a regular service of Intercity and high speed Alfa Pendular trains for which you must have a seat reservation. The CP website is available in English and is quite...

    Ryanair fiasco

If you book a flight and hotel in one transaction on the Ryanair website, does that make it a package? If so, presumably if Ryanair cancel the outbound flight causing you to lose the holiday, they have to refund both flight and hotel?

    Ryanair fiasco

Likewise. We were planning to use them in November and December and again in February and March. For now at least, we've scrubbed our plans for December and will take a road trip instead. Two of the trips have gone to EZY the fourth is still in the planning stage. That's four return trips for 2...
