I was in the first carriage and the driver compartment is right there. He was preparing to leave and appeared surprised when I tapped on his window. I had to force my way off, the doors did not open.
And as I said earlier, I read online newspaper reports that have to be viewed with scepticism...
Mojo - once again, apologies for unclear info in my original post, the report I emailed to FCC was much more thorough, thankfully. I didn't actually expect such a response on this website so didn't take much time to explain myself before posting - rookie mistake, will try to improve if I post again!
Thanks for this, I hadn't thought about him attempting to rectify the situation whilst we were trapped. Perhaps he did, though he was very rude and appeared to be completely surprised when I appeared at his window. Makes me think that he didn't realise there was a problem at all!
Pendolino - he was very cross, and considering the shock I'd just had I was surprisingly calm and not offensive to him! Another passenger on the platform also heard the exchange and had her mouth open in disbelief so I know it wasn't just me who thought he was out of order!
This driver actually told me that he couldn't see, in fact his words were "how am I supposed to know if I can't see?". If he had access to mirrors/monitors, he should have been able to see me, friend and buggy. It makes me wonder if his equipment was faulty or if he just didn't bother to use it...
My friend who normally does this journey alone did take the buggy off backwards, however the gap is still very large to negotiate. I bent down to lift the front wheel onto the platform, it was here that the doors closed. I believe that there was plenty of buggy visible on the outside to have...
Pendolino - I was looking at recent newspaper reports that covered body parts such as hands, ankle, arm, etc - though of course they must be viewed with scepticism. I would have assumed that an arm or leg would be detectable, though one wouldn't expect to have an arm or leg as large as a double...
Yes, I think probably best not to engage them, though even the unhelpful comments have highlighted missing areas in my original post (much more thoroughly covered in my email to FCC), I didn't actually expect such a response so didn't take much time to explain myself before posting - rookie...
Gimmea50anyday - Many thanks for your checklist! I'll make sure to mail off a hard copy of my email re the 20 second limit blah. I'd not thought of the CCTV, the company can view the entire incident! Also, I would have pulled the emergency cord if I could have reached it!! Though I appreciate...
Since this is my first experience of getting caught in train doors, I assumed they would react similar to lift doors and reopen if obstructed. If an obstruction does not clear itself and almost a minute later (as in this instance) the doors are still open, surely it's time to check for problems...
Asylumxl - I was very polite in my email to FCC. I am concerned re. safety - my question 'what can I expect' was more directed toward 'can I expect a response from FCC' etc, I don't expect anything more than that. I should have made this clearer, sorry!
Jamie - we were ready to exit this train and standing by the doors, ready. After other people had alighted before us we then attempted to leave ourselves. As there is a particularly large gap between the train and platform, we travelled in the first compartment where this gap is slightly...
Mojo - perhaps I should have made my questions simpler.
Why did the doors not reopen..? - If there is no obstruction, the train is free to leave. If there is an obstruction, someone needs to clear it in order to avoid a serious incident.
Why was the driver not aware..? - If he was aware, why...
Hello, last week I got trapped in train doors along with my friend's double buggy (complete with 16 month old twins) which was stuck half on and half off the train (First Capital Connect). We were attempting to exit the train at the time and not taking an excessively long time to do it. After...
