I think you may find that the early morning Belper to Sheffield train was running before privatisation. I do believe its been running for over 30 years. But I can't be certain. Sometimes the 7.29 it is an HST.
The EMT Sheffield to Derby trains have extra running time compared to cross country...
I live in Belper and the morning train to Sheffield has ran for many years. However it has never been balanced with a return working in the evening. To drive between the two at peak times is a nightmare. I have to work in Sheffield from time to time so this service is a welcome addition. I...
Surely you mean smaller profits and then less salaries to keep fares down. Paying workers less is not exactly the best way to get the best out of your workforce.
The whole perception of workers pay is very distorted here in the UK. A top footballer will get paid the same amount for just a few...
I had the misfortune to travel on the 16.28 cross country train from Derby to Tamworth. I am 6ft 4ins and of slim built. I sat in an airline seats. Cross country seem to removed most of the tables, which I presume is done to pack as many passengers in as possible. My knees were touching the seat...
Of course it is foreseeable, but either the rail industry lacks the people to forsee it (which I doubt) or, more likely, they can't agree amongst themselves, and there is no-one to make them agree, on solving these problems.
No, they just don't care. It is too much bother to think about...
Maybe if Northern ran a few more trains that are more comfortable. Its a beautiful line that can be barely seen from the window of an 156 or 158. These units are also extremely noisy as the struggle on the route and the vibration is most disconcerting. Given northerns track record, they...
All cross country non hst second class seats are unbearable uncomfy. Too small, not enough leg room.
EMT all non hst services to London in second class. Same as above plus shocking under floor engine noise and vibration.
Class 153 units that pop up between Matlock and Nottingingham. These...
Scrap them all. I lived in Scotland for 10 years and traveled frequently on comfortable mark3 coaches pulled by a 47 between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Then they were replaced by the 158 horrors. Sames goes for most lines where mark2 coaches and locomotives were replaced by 158s. With their tiny...
Bridlington had 6 platforms. Sadly there is a new housing estate on most of them now.
In days gone by on summer Saturdays, long distance trains with 12 carriages would go to places like London, Birmingham, Glasgow , Newcastle. Plus there were many merrymaker excursions running to Bridlington...
Recently I was in the Borders, towns like Kelso and Melrose. The locals are quite indifferent to this railway. They don't think it actually goes anyway. Galashiels is a dead town and the locals have no interest in the railway. Nobody lives in Tweedbank. Yet this line to nowhere is getting two...
Without the concessionary free train travel, the trains will be running empty in South Yorkshire. The withdrawn concession also allowed pass holders to travel into West Yorkshire.
Without public subsidy there would be very few trains running in the UK. So if the taxpayer keeps the railways...
